Date: Issue 103 - January 2021
November 29, 2020. Within the scope of the New Type Submarine project of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the command control system of Murat Reis, the 3rd new type submarine, was completed by HAVELSAN and delivered to the Naval Forces Command.
Having completed the command control systems of the first two submarines as part of the New Type Submarine Project, HAVELSAN also finalized the installation and detailed tests of the command control system of Murat Reis, the 3rd submarine. The system was delivered to the Naval Forces Command.
President of Defense Industries Prof. İsmail DEMİR made the following statement:
“The REIS class submarine supply project is a part of our activities to bring long-term strategic competencies to our country. Many of our defense industry companies are involved in this project as the parties, the systems of which are directly used or a technology transfer is made, aiming to gain design competence in submarines, produce the equipment/hardware domestically, and especially to gain control by national companies over the entire software and hardware of command control systems. The submarine combat management system was developed by HAVELSAN within the scope of this project. Moreover, a submarine command control system configured by real equipment/hardware, which can be referred as the 7th submarine, was deployed at HAVELSAN. Thus, if there is a need to integrate new weapons or sensors into such submarines, the software of the command control system will be adapted by HAVELSAN and tested on real equipment/hardware in this facility. The command control system equipment/hardware to be mounted on our submarines is assembled at the System Integration Laboratory in HAVELSAN and is subjected to intensive tests and then shipped to Gölcük Shipyard Command where the submarines are built in order to be installed. This shipment was made after the successful completion of the Command Control System of Murat Reis, the 3rd submarine of the project. I congratulate those who have contributed to these efforts.”
Command Control System
The Command Control System is a system where data obtained from acoustic and non-acoustic sensors are processed, displayed and decision support functions are performed supporting weapons firing units. In essence, the Command control system is considered to be the brain of the submarine.
Submarines are used in many critical operations from naval warfare to intelligence missions and are regarded as force multipliers thanks to their potential, and they require command control systems that will maximize their operational efficiency and security.
