The GENESIS Modernization Project on the fourth ship as has become a tradition with the previous three ships was delivered to the Naval Forces Command on 20 July 2009 before the planned delivery date. The tradition continued with the fifth ship and after the completion of the port and cruise tests was delivered for duty to the Naval Command on 19 February 2010 before the planned date of the first week in March. Within the Project’s coverage, the modernization of eight frigates will be realized.

With the G-GSYS Modernization Program, HAVELSAN has developed its capabilities in:
• The development and application through national means, the Interstratification
and Battle Management System software application based on changing
requirements.
• The local production of equipment and systems through in large part using
national resources and available commercial products.
• System integration and the conduct of tests, provision of necessary training and
maintenance support throughout the life of the system.

The TCG Gemlik (F-492) as the first ship modernized under the Project and as the pride of the defence industry undertook defence duties against Somali pirates off the coast of Somalia in 2009.
