Selçuk BAYRAKTAR: ‘TB-3 will be Deployed to TCG Anadolu in 2024, and Bayraktar KIZILELMA MIUS in 2025!’

Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Baykar Company, Selçuk BAYRAKTAR, made a statement to the press at the delivery ceremony of the TCG Anadolu Multi-Purpose Amphibious Assault Ship. Selçuk BAYRAKTAR emphasized that he is proud of Turkish engineers regarding the commissioning of the TCG Anadolu, and UAVs will be deployed on a ship with a short runway for the first time in the world.

Date: April 11, 2023

Selçuk BAYRAKTAR stated that TB-3 will be deployed to TCG Anadolu in 2024 and Bayraktar KIZILELMA MIUS in 2025. "We visited the ship while she was under construction for the integration of TB-3 and KIZILELMA. Seeing her finished now is obviously very impressive. I was proud on behalf of our country that we commissioned something produced by very few countries in the world. We brought the Bayraktar TB-3, which is capable of landing and take-off on a short-runway ship for the first time in the world, and the Bayraktar KIZILELMA, the first unmanned fighter aircraft of our country. TB-3 has not yet flown; KIZILELMA's flight tests continue. After its maiden flight, the TB-3 will be deployed on board in 2024. We will also prepare KIZILELMA for production by the end of 2023, and it will start flying from the ship in 2025."

Stating that the Turkish Armed Forces started a paradigm shift in the world with the Armed UAVs, Selçuk BAYRAKTAR underlined that a revolution would take place in the history of warfare once the TB-3 and KIZILELMA deployed on TCG Anadolu. "Unexpectedly in the world, our country has initiated a paradigm shift in warfare with UAVs. Our country has shown the whole world that UAVs can be highly effective, first in domestic and cross-border counter-terrorism operations and then in the Second Karabakh War. Again, our country will have a similar asymmetric effect with the deployment of UAVs on TCG Anadolu. In a sense, when these aircraft start to work together with our ship TCG Anadolu, it will be revolutionary in the history of warfare."

Emphasizing that the taking-off and landing of fixed-wing aircraft on a ship with such a short runway will provide a vital capability, Selçuk BAYRAKTAR said that the TB-3 has landed and taken off at TCG Anadolu tens of thousands of times in simulations. "The critical detail here is that these are not vertical take-off and landing aircraft. After all, it's about landing fixed-wing aircraft on a ship with such a short and narrow runway. They will do this entirely automatically. While we develop all our aircraft, we use advanced simulator software to ensure the flight before our aircraft takes off. In the last 1.5-2 years, TB-3 has automatically landed and taken off tens of thousands of times from TCG Anadolu in the simulator. Hopefully, KIZILELMA will land on TCG Anadolu after TB-3. KIZILELMA is faster and heavier than TB-3, weighing 8.5 tons and carrying 1.5 tons of payload. This development will leave its mark on the world for the Turkish Defense Industry. It creates a significant force multiplier and paradigm shifts. It's hard, but it's just as exciting for us. In fact, approximately 1.5 years after we announced the TB-3 for the first time, two leading companies in the world, one from the USA and the other from Israel, made a similar statement. No one has taken off from ships with short runways yet with UAVs; let's see who will do it first."

Stating that the TB-3 Armed Unmanned Aerial Vehicle can land and take off from TCG Anadolu without needing a catapult system, Selçuk BAYRAKTAR said that an arresting gear (arrestor) would be integrated into the ship for the KIZILELMA MİUS in the future. "TB-3 will take off with its own power without needing equipment such as catapults. Only KIZILELMA MIUS will need arresting gears. Because KIZILELMA is much faster and heavier, but TB-3 has a special braking system with anti-slip. The friction coefficient of the runway is slightly higher, so the TB-3 will be able to stop with its own braking power. The TB-3 has unique aerodynamic surfaces, and it can make very hard landings. TB-3 weighs around 1.5 tons. KIZILELMA will not feature folding wings. KIZILELMA's wingspan is 10 meters, meaning it fits on the runway, while the TB-3's is 14 meters. It was designed that way especially to save more space in the hangar. TB-3 will use the TEI production engine.
