American troops arrived in Turkey Friday to operate Patriot missile batteries to defend the country from neighboring Syria, CNN Reported. Syria has previously launched Scud missiles at cities near the Turkish border in a desperate bid to extend its firepower. In response, the U.S., Germany and the Netherlands deployed Patriot air defense missiles to the border region to intercept any Syrian ballistic missiles.
A group of 27 U.S. troops arrived in Gaziantep on Thursday to work on the deployment of Patriot air defense systems that were demanded by Turkey from NATO. United States will send 400 troops and two Patriot missile batteries to Turkey as part of the NATO effort to protect Turkey from potential Syrian attacks.
