“We Would be Glad to Cooperate with Türkiye in the MILDEN Program as We Have Done in Surface Ships!”

The S-81 Submarine ‘Isaac Peral`, the first Spanish-designed and built submarine, was launched in May 2021, conducted the initial sea trials and its first navigation in the Bay of Cartagena in May 2022, performed its first static dive in March 2023 and commissioned on November 30, 2023. Since then, the S-81 Isaac Peral, the first submarine designed in Spain and the first of four boats on order under the S-80 Program, has been operated by the Submarine Flotilla at the Cartagena Arsenal. Defence Turkey caught up with Navantia’s Managing Director of the Submarine Business and S-80 Program, Germán Romero VALIENTE to get first-hand information on the current status of AIP powered S-80 (Isaac Peral Class) Submarine Program, additional capabilities that Navantia is working on for the S-80 Submarine evolutions, Navantia’s digital transformation strategy and digital infrastructure (including digital mock-up/digital twin and simulation tools) that being utilized within the scope of the S-80 Program and on the BEST® AIP System. We also took the opportunity to ask him about Navantia’s approach to Turkish MILDEN Program.
