On August 6, President of Defense Industries Prof. İsmail DEMİR shared on his Twitter account that a new batch of domestically manufactured BMC VURAN 4x4 Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles was delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK).
“Our deliveries continue at full speed. We delivered the latest batch of VURAN Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicles to the Turkish Armed Forces.” Demir wrote in his statement.
Developed by the leading Turkish defense contractor BMC under the Tactical Wheeled Armored Vehicle Project carried out by the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB), the VURAN 4x4 has a carrying capacity of 9 people. Additionally, the VURAN provides protection against mines and ballistic threats with its 4×4 monocoque armored cabin, windows, V-shaped hull, and shock-absorbing seats. VURAN 4x4 vehicles are also equipped with a front and rear camera, automatic fire extinguishing system, central tire inflation system (CTIS), Run-Flat tires, and Aselsan SARP remote-controlled weapon station (RCWS). The vehicles were later integrated with various subsystems such as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological & Nuclear (CBRN) defense system, Jammer, smoke grenade launcher, and hydraulic winch.
The VURAN 4x4 will be able to perform different tasks such as protecting critical points and facilities, patrolling between police stations, convoy protection, reconnaissance, and physical border security as part of counterterrorism and border missions. It is planned to procure a total of 713 BMC VURAN 4x4 MRAPs, including 512 for the Land Forces Command, 200 for the Gendarmerie General Command, and 1 for the Coast Guard Command.
