A BIG OPPORTUNITY FOR IZMIR IN AEROSPACE AND DEFENCE!
In order for Izmir to host the 2012 Global Industrial Cooperation Conference (GICC) that takes place at a different country every other year on offset and countertrade in the defence and aerospace sector, ESBAŞ has been officially appointed by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM).
Under the leadership of global aerospace giants such as Bombardier, Aerospace, Boeing, General Electric, General Dynamics and Lockheed, the Global Offset and Countertrade Association (GOCA) sponsors conferences are held in North America and elsewhere semi-annually.
The GICC conferences are organized jointly with the London-based Aerospace Defence Security Industry (ADS) and include 2,600 firms that are active in the aerospace industry. GICC conferences take place with the participation of over 2,600 member companies and are realized with the attendance of over 1,000 high level officials from firms in the global aerospace industry.
ESBAŞ Chairman Mr. Kaya Tuncer undertook a series of meetings with GOCA and ADS members during the Second Izmir Global Aerospace and Offset Conference that took place at the ESBAŞ Conference Hall between 6 and 8 October 2010 in order for Izmir to host the GOCA conference in 2012.
Aside from Izmir, Warsaw, Prague, Rome and Copenhagen are also in the running for the 2012 GICC conference. Past conferences took place in Sintra, Portugal in 2004; Athens, Greece in 2006; Seville, Spain in 2008 and in Budapest, Hungary in 2010.
The SSM will support the conference venue in Izmir and has authorized ESBAŞ to make an official application and submit a proposal to GOCA.
ESBAŞ Chairman of the Board Mr. Kaya Tuncer outlined his views on realizing the 2012 GICC conference in Izmir. Mr. Tuncer stated that: “In order to attract advanced technology investments to Izmir and the Aegean Free Zone we are carrying out intense publicity and marketing work and we are getting the results. In this way, on the one hand while creating new job opportunities for our youth; on the other hand with international conferences that we organize we are publicizing Izmir to the officials of world wide companies.
To publicize Izmir to the world, to attract global companies to Izmir is a must condition. This conference is an important opportunity in publicizing Izmir to the world. I am continuing my meetings with GOCA officials to bring the 2012 GICC conference to Izmir. If Izmir is selected for theconference nearly 450 opinion leaders in the aerospace and defence sector will come to Izmir. I hope we are able to win this 2012 conference for Izmir.”
