ASELSAN is Growing in Kazakhstan with KAE
Aselsan’s participation in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan Aselsan Engineering (KAE) has signed two agreements at the Defence Industry Fair KADEX in Astana.
KAE Avionics on the EC-145 Helicopter
Commencing its activities in Astana in 2013, KAE signed a broad memorandum of co-operation agreement with Eurocopter Kazakhstan Engineering (EKE) that Eurocopter founded in the same city.
As a participant of the Airbus Group, the collaboration agreement with EKE foresees the integration of avionic devices produced by KAE to locally produced EKE helicopters. The work to be carried out involves the integration of Aselsan systems developed for the different missions of the helicopters. The helicopters to be produced will take shape in line with the needs of the Kazakh Army. The collaboration agreement, was signed by KAE’s CEO Tarık Ziya Kaboğlu and EKE’s CEO Tristan Serretta. The signing ceremony was attended by Aselsan General Manager Cengiz Ergeneman, Kazakhstan Engineering (KE) President Bolat Smagulov and Airbus Helicopters (AHD) representative Onesime Volkoff.
Collaboration with Airbus is Expanding
Aselsan had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus at the ILA Fair in Berlin on 20 May. Within the coverage of the MoU, collaboration will be expanded to cover civil and military avionic systems, satellite communication systems, electro-optic and laser systems and secure radio communications and that will also include export possibilities. Aselsan and Eurocopter had previously signed a MoU at KADEX 2012. The signing at this Fair has further expanded the coverage of this collaboration.
Tanks will be Modernised
KAE has also signed a memorandum of co-operation with Semey Engineering that is active in armoured vehicle production and maintenance. The text of the agreement was signed by KAE’s CEO Tarık Ziya Kaboğlu and Deputy General Manager of Semey Engineering Ramil Bayazitov. The signing ceremony was also attended by Aselsan General Manager Cengiz Ergeneman and Kazakhstan Engineering (KE) President Bolat Smagulov.
Within the coverage of the Agreement, KAE and Semey Engineering will work on the modernisation of armoured vehicles in the inventory of the Kazakh Army. In addition, the T-72 Main Battle Tanks, BTR, BRDM and other armoured vehicles will be modernised with the latest technology available.
Turkish and Kazakh Engineers Worked Together
The BRDM armoured vehicle modernised jointly by the engineers of KAE and Semey Engineering was displayed at the Fair. Overhauled to a fully equipped mobile reconnaissance and surveillance vehicle against asymmetric threats, the BRMD was exhibited for the viewing of visitors at the Fair. The vehicle is equipped with Aselsan’s long-range electro-optic systems, the SARP Stabilised Remote Controlled Weapon System, the ACAR Ground Reconnaissance radar and communication systems.
The BTR-70 Armoured Personnel Carrier integrated with Aselsan’s thermal sight and fire control system was also exhibited at the Fair. The said vehicles are planned to undergo acceptance tests by the Kazakh Army in the second half of 2014.
