Aselsan Launches the Accurate Electro-Optics Facility
Aselsan’s Accurate Electro-Optics Facility, which has been under construction for a long while, was opened and launched with an official ceremony held on 28 May 2016. Minister of National Education Mr. İsmet Yılmaz (former Minister of Defense), Turkish Armed Forces Foundation (TSKGV) General Manager Mr. Orhan Akbaş, Deputy Undersecretary for Defense Industries and Aselsan Chairman of the Board Mr. Mustafa Murat Şeker, Roketsan Chairman of the Board Mr. Mehmet Emin Alpman and members of the protocol attended the ceremony.
Minister of National Education Mr. İsmet Yılmaz made a speech at the opening of the Aselsan Accurate Electro-Optics Facility at Ahmet Turan Gazi Organized Industrial Site District and underlined the fact that they were realizing the opening of a facility with high added value which would be manufacturing products based on information and added that the factory would be contributing to the formation of a cluster in electro-optics in Sivas in the future. Minister Yılmaz continued, “Hopefully, Sivas will spring to mind when the word electro-optics is uttered. Therefore, this should be considered as a step to such an end. I would like to thank all those who contributed to the actualization of this step”.
Following the speeches, Aselsan Deputy Director General and Aselsan Accurate Electro-Optics Vice President Mr. Osman Yıldırım presented, on the very first day, a vision binocular manufactured at the facility as a gift to Minister of National Education Mr. İsmet Yılmaz.
Yearly Capacity of the Production of 100,000 Lenses
Aselsan Accurate Electro-Optics will be conducting the design and serial production of the electro-optics required by the Turkish Defense Industry while manufacturing sighting devices of indigenous and national weapons by using such electro-optics. The facility launched its activities in an indoor area of 5,000 m2 within the structure of the Sivas Organized Industrial Site, which will produce 100,000 lenses per year through the utilization of advanced technology. Aselsan Accurate Electro-Optics, reaching the status of a leader within Europe with the aforementioned capacity, is aiming to pave the way for the extension of advanced technology and the defense industry across the country. Through the launch of this facility, in addition to the accurate electro-optics production and electro-optics installation, the R&D activities conducted at the universities in the region have been accelerated.
