Atılım University to Initiate SAYP Program
The protocol on the Researcher Training Program for Defense Industry (SAYP) was signed by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM), Aselsan, Roketsan, TAI, TEI, Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK), FNSS Savunma Sistemleri A.Ş. and Atılım University.
Deputy Undersecretary for the Defense Industries Dr. Celal Sami Tüfekçi, General Manager & CEO of TEI Mr. Mahmut Akşit, MKEK Vice General Manager Mr. Mehmet Sait Demirci, Roketsan Vice General Manager Mr. Necip Pehlivantürk and TAI’s Strategy and Technology Management Director Mr. Bekir Ata Yılmaz attended the ceremony.
In his remark at the ceremony, Deputy Undersecretary for the Defense Industries Dr. Celal Sami Tüfekçi addressed the requirement of increasing the human capital in defense industry and said, “From this point onward, we need to attach importance to basic R&D as well. SAYP Program stands out as one of the most prominent platforms for heading towards the R&D and Development programs. I believe, with the help of SAYP, we will be accomplishing great progress”.
Atılım University Rector Prof. Yıldırım Üçtuğ stated that they gave importance to the postgraduate education in order to increase the R&D studies conducted within their university. Drawing the attention to the fact that the protocol signed would be developing the cooperation between the university and industry, Prof. Üçtuğ expressed that he was certain that the studies conducted to this end would be reflecting positively to all aspects of the sector.
Creation of expert labor force through the SAYP program
SAYP Program was carried into effect by the SSM with the cooperation protocols signed between METU, Aselsan, Roketsan and TAI in October 2011 and the implementation of the program started in 2012. With this program that is conducted by the SSM, taking the requirements and priorities of the defense industry into consideration and with the systematic progress of the information transfer between the defense industry companies and the universities; the structuring of the post-graduate dissertations prepared in the universities by the staff of the defense industry companies for fulfilling the R&D requirements of the companies and their introduction to the privileged areas of the defense industry sector while training of the post-graduate students as qualified R&D personnel in defense issues with the facilities provided by the defense industry companies are aimed.
