BOEING Donates Computer Lab to Afyonkarahisar
The BOEING Company, which provides considerable support to education in Turkey, has established a fully equipped computer lab at Huriye Askar Primary School in Afyonkarahisar. The computer lab, which will serve 230 students, includes computers, technical equipment and materials that students and teachers can use together.
The computer lab was opened during a ceremony attended by BOEING Turkey President Greg Pepin, Regional Director of National Education Metin Yalçın, local administration officials, as well as teachers, students and parents. During the ceremony, Pepin emphasized the importance of education and said: "Education, no matter in Turkey or in United States, is very important. By providing opportunities to help students fully embrace their love of learning we can help them use their knowledge and skills to make the world a better place than it is today. The computer labs established by BOEING across Turkey are providing modern perspectives and good learning environments for children who are our future".
In his opening speech, Regional Director of National Education Metin YALÇIN said: "The development of states and the serenity of community depends on the level of education. The higher the level of education, the stronger the country is.
BOEING Turkey has carried out corporate citizenship projects in the areas of education, health and human service as well as arts and culture. Since 2000, BOEING has supported 96 education projects in 38 Turkish cities. These projects include establishing computer and science laboratories, renovating and constructing school buildings as well as donating sports equipment and books to schools. BOEING also provides scholarships to students and as a founding supporter of Space Camp Turkey, the company has provided 330 scholarships for students to attend Space Camp since 2001.
