CARINTHIA is a trademark of the Goldeck Textil GmbH, situated in the south of Austria. It is well known for cold weather garments and sleeping bags, which are made for extreme weather conditions and professional use only. CARINTHIA produces its products solely in Europe, since the quality standards are much higher here compared to far east. The brand CARINTHIA, or more so Goldeck Textil GmbH, has a history reaching back into the 1940s.
Shortly after the end of the Second World War, in 1948, craftsmanship was the cornerstone of the business. Mr. August Mayer’s father founded a production facility for quilts in Spittal/Drau. The coveted quilts were initially sewn by hand and represented a hallmark of the new prosperity for the undemanding post-war consumers. In 1971 Mr. Augustin Mayer took over the family business and ten years later he purchased a 14.000 m2 plot in Seeboden/Millstättersee where presently part of the production, warehousing and administration are located.
In the 1980s sudden success was achieved with the production of high-level, alpine-tested sleeping bags. In the mid-1990s it was necessary to outsource part of the labor-intensive production. In the eastern part of Slovakia a company suitable for expansion was found and is now in the ownership of Goldeck Textil GmbH. Another production facility is located in Moldavia.
The company started out with 12 to 14 sewers, which has now grown to more than 250 employees, producing sleeping bags, quilts, pillows and waterbeds. Goldeck Textil owns the administration, sales and warehousing departments for all its three trademarks - Blu Times, G-LOFT and CARINTHIA and are kept under one roof in Seeboden. This also includes the production of the revolutionary micro fiber G-LOFT, which is an essential component in many products of the company group.
The brand CARINTHIA is known for insulated garments and sleeping bags for civilians as well as military use. CARINTHIA offers two product lines: CARINTHIA Outdoor and CARINTHIA Professional. Deliveries are made worldwide. With their sleeping bags and bivy-bags product line, CARINTHIA Professional has become the leading European producer within the military field.
For more than 60 years Carinthia has been doing research in the processing of synthetic and down fillings. Outdoor experts are consulted during the development process resulting in high-performance customized sleeping bags and outdoor products, that perfectly meet outdoor requirements in every situations. Our in-house research and development department carries out the necessary lab and cold chamber tests for any new developments. The main component of all the CARINTHIA products is the G-LOFT fiber fillings.
G-LOFT is a synthetic fiber invented by CARINTHIA to make their products uniquely comfortable to wear, even in extremely wet and cold weather conditions. The revolutionary G-LOFT insulation meets the highest standards and combines the benefits of natural down with the ruggedness of a synthetic fiber. The G-LOFT fiber is warm, light and breathable in any condition and due to the “memory effect” the fibers automatically return to their original and unique form. The memory effect is given, due to the exceptionally fluffy and warming spiral form of the G-LOFT insulation. The molecular structure of the bi-component fiber makes it possible to maintain the original form and structure even after the insulation is wet or compressed for a long period of time. This is permanent, even after repeated washing and hard use. G-LOFT guarantees optimal thermal insulation and heat regulation. G-LOFTs special microfibers and “low-melt-fibers” assures a permanent, fluffy G-LOFT insulation with the minimum possible packsize. This is important to our products, since the weight-pack ratio has to be the lowest possible.
Due to the in-house fabrication of the G-LOFT material, different kind of fleece variation can be made to meet the costumer’s needs.
The main costumers are armies, Air Forces, Special Forces and Law Enforcement all around the globe. CARINTHIA Professional line products are custom designed to fit the needs of their customers. To ensure a soldiers top performance, the best materials must be used. A soldier’s activity profile is characterized by the alternation between highly intensive operational phases and long stand-by periods. During the active operational phases, a soldier usually does need less protection against the weather conditions; consequently he relies even more on it during stand-by periods. Therefore another important characteristics of the CARINTHIA products is the small pack size and the light weight. Once packed, it takes up extremely little space and can be stowed away easily in a backpack. After unpacking, however, it provides efficient insulation against cold and windy weather conditions immediately. The WINDSTOPPER from GORE-TEX fabric protects the soldiers from wind-chill by blocking the wind and avoiding heat loss. WINDSTOPPER products combine total windproofness with maximum breathability. Combined with the G-LOFT insulation filling the product is hard-wearing and releases moisture quickly to the atmosphere.
CARINTHIA Professional jackets and trousers can be worn as an outer protection shell, but they are just as suitable as a thermoliner underneath the PRG weather protection jackets. The ergonomic cut and the soft G-LOFT insulation allow unrestricted mobility, giving the high insulation garments a pleasant feeling of lightweight wear.
GORE-TEX is also used for their bivy-bags and bivy-tents. All of them have the revolutionary gas permeable laminate as their top material. Besides the gas permeability, the material is absolutely waterproof. That means that the bivy-bags and tents can be closed completely without having to keep any ventilation slit open for fresh air, since the air permeates through the material itself. The benefits are obvious: the warmed air stays inside the bivy-bag, resulting in a much better insulation effect and in really bad weather conditions and precipitation the bivy-bag can be closed completely and remains absolutely waterproof.
CARINTHIAs top selling products are their military sleeping bag systems. The unique cuts and materials of the sleeping bags are used to provide the highest standards in quality, which is appreciated by armies and Special Forces worldwide. The military sleeping bags are sewn with an outer layer that is not quilted with the shell itself. This provides a better insulation and weather resistance. All military sleeping bags are equipped with a two-way-zipper. The glider on the top does not snag, allowing a quick step out, if necessary. This can be lifesaving in case of an alert.
Some of CARINTHIAs top clients include the armies of Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, India, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and many more. The products are also used by Special Units all over the world, including the German KSK and GSG9 or Great Britain’s SAS, Royal Marines, and Royal Air Force UK.

Since 2013, CARINTHIA has expanded its operation and now has a office located in Istanbul, Turkey. Here, Managing Director, Mr. Gökhan Çam, is now operating the businesses focusing on the Caucasus and Central Asia markets.
