Collaboration Agreement Signed Between BİTES and Aselsan Sivas for the Development of “Augmented Reality Glasses” Prototype
Development of “Augmented Reality Glasses” Prototype
Two Aselsan companies, BİTES and Aselsan Sivas, joined forces for the development of indigenous Augmented Reality (AR) Glasses that support “Future Soldier” concept. The collaboration agreement was signed during the International Future Soldier conference to develop smart glasses prototype for the needs of the security forces on the battlefield.
Features of the glasses to be developed in the Phase-1 of the project are:
Can be run by external sensors and cameras
Have wide FoV (wide angle)
Have 5G-LTE-WIFI support
Suitable for environmental conditions
Can be used in military operations
In line with their competencies and experiences, BITES will undertake augmented reality software development, Aselsan Sivas will undertake the optical, electronic and optomechanical design and production responsibilities. System engineering activities will be carried out by both companies.
The main objective is to eliminate foreign dependency and to design a product prototype in line with the operational needs of the security forces. In the following stages, BITES and Aselsan Sivas will continue their studies to compete in the global market.
Situational Awareness and Use of Augmented Reality Glasses on the Battlefield
Wearable technologies have become increasingly important to identify threats and develop tactics against such threats in future battlefields. Thanks to the communication infrastructure developed by wearable sensors and smart glasses by the units participating in the operation, real-time information exchange with respective units and command centers are possible. With the smart glasses to be used by the security forces, information such as the battlefield map, the location and health data of other units, information transmitted from the command center, and threat elements in the user’s field of view can be accessed. Such information that supports security forces to make decisions within seconds can be transmitted with smart glasses without affecting the line of sight.
