Defence and Aerospace Giants Meeting in Ankara ICDDA ’14

Within the scope of the second edition of International Cooperation Days in Defence and Aerospace that will be held in 2014, an introductory meeting for press members has taken place in Ankara. Undersecretary for Defence Industries Mr. Murad Bayar, President of Ankara Chamber of Industry (ASO) Mr. Nurettin Özdebir, Chairman of the Middle East Industry and Trade Center (OSTIM) Mr. Orhan Aydın, OSSA Chairman of the Board Mr. Mithat Ertuğ, SSM Head of Industrialization Department Bilal Aktaş, Head of the SMEs and Clustering Department of General Directorate of Export Mr. M. Emrah Sazak, Secretary General of Ankara Development Agency Mr. Arif Şayık and members of press attended the meeting and details of the event were shared.
In his speech at the meeting, OSSA Chairman of the Board Mr. Mithat Ertuğ mentioned that OSSA once a regional cluster now became a national cluster and have members besides the companies of Ankara and added that the companies applying for OSSA membership are selected regarding their alignment with certain criteria.
ASO President Nurettin Özdebir stated that OSTİM gained a great impetus with the support of Undersecretariat for Defence Industries and spoke of how Ankara becomes a center of industry. In his speech, Özdebir expressed that Turkish Industry needs to be administered through a ministry. 
Undersecretary for Defence Industries Mr. Murad Bayar pointed out the importance of clustering in defence and aerospace industries and said that OSSA sets a great example in this respect. Bayar mentioned that the first edition of the International Cooperation Days in Defence and Aerospace that was held in last March was very fruitful and added that he believed the second edition would be much more successful. In his reply to a question, Murad Bayar spoke of a mechanism they developed for the SMEs assuming projects regarding Defence Industry and mentioned that they opened investment credits with backpayments tied to production and delivery processes to SMEs. Bayar added that 10 applications for this credit have been made so far and that 2 companies have already used this credit. 
Hundreds of Companies from 20 Countries Expected to Attend the Event
Broad participation of local and foreign main suppliers and sub-industry companies are expected to participate in the event in 2014 from 20 countries. Over 4000 bilateral business meetings are anticipated to take place at the event. On the first day of the event that will take place at ATO Congresium Congress Center between 14-16 October 2014, a Conference on “Panorama of Defence, Aviation and Offset Market in Turkey” will take place. On the 2nd and 3rd days of the event, the attendees will have the opportunity to make bilateral business meetings. Workshops on purchase procedures of original equipment manufacturers and supply chain policies within the scope of the event and participants will be able to join an industrial visit on the last day.
270 companies from 23 countries participated to the first edition of the event that took place on 6-8 March 2013 and 4000 business meetings were accomplished.
