Eurosam’s Tactical Ballistic Missile Defence System SAMP/T (Surface-to-Air-Missile Platform/Terrain) Passed the Tests
Officials of the Eurosam company announced that the three ballistic missiles within the scope of the tender initiated by the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries to fulfil the demands of the Turkish Long Range Air and Missile Defence System (T-LORAMİDS) started to result and added, “Especially with the final firing test, the SAMP/T’s interoperability with the NATO elements have been proved and data and images regarding the firing tests have been shared with the Turkish authorities”.
Eurosam briefed on the state of play regarding the SAMP/T program in a press meeting organized within the scope of IDEF 13.
Eurosam Chairman Antonio Perfetti, CEO Michel Vigneras and Vice President and Exports and Sales Director at MBDA Sergio Cavicchi attended the meeting held on the second day of the fair.
Michel Vigneras the CEO of the Eurosam that participated the project of Turkish Armed Forces Long Range Air and Missile Defence System with the SAMP/T project stated that they have been conducting tests on the ballistic missile targets and added that the system functioned perfectly. Vigneras noted that the long range is a highly strategic area and that the cooperation between Turkey, France and Italy shall continue in the future.
Vigneras also expressed that they have been exerting efforts to increase the independence of the local industry and said “Our objective is to meet the demands of our Turkish customers. We wish to offer autonomy to our clients in the area of usage”.
Eurosam’s Chairman of the Board Perfetti said that Eurosam has been supported by the Italian and French governments from the very beginning and mentioned that they aimed to establish a multinational cooperation between Italy, France and Turkey with the help of this project.
Perfetti said that they committed a high level industrial cooperation that encompasses joint developments and joint production in Turkey and added “Each component developed by Turkish Defence Industry companies shall be the part of our basic SAMP/T configuration”.
Capabilities of SAMP/T Battery
Eight ASTER 30 Block 1 missiles exist on each battery and are composed of 6-8 launchers. Launchers could be located 10 km far from the Arabel radar that is a product of Thales and used in the acquisition and tracking of targets. The SAMP/T Firing unit supported by the Arabel radar has the capability of engaging with ten different air targets simultaneously with the help of 16 ASTER 30 missiles. Each SAMP/T launcher could fire 8 ASTER 30 missiles within 10 seconds and has a range of maximum 120 km.
