Fokker Opens its new Manufacturing Facility in Izmir
Fokker Elmo, a business unit of Fokker Technologies, has officially opened its 8,000 m2 manufacturing facility for aerospace and defence electrical interconnection systems in the Aegean Free Zone in Izmir, Turkey. Manufacturing in Izmir since 2008, Fokker Elmo’s new facility now employs 275 highly qualified staff supported by the proprietary integrated Wiring Design and Manufacturing System (WDMS).
Izmir Governor Mustafa Toprak, Dutch Ambassador to Ankara, officials of the Turkish Ministry of Defence and defence industry representatives attended the opening. Tim Hayter, President of Fokker Elmo, speaking at the opening ceremony said: “This represents the next and exciting phase in the future development of Fokker Elmo Turkey, on which we can continue to build in the years to come. Driven by an excellent team, we now have a state-of-the art custom designed facility that is an essential part of our drive for customer excellence.”
The Aegean Free Zone in Izmir was also the location for the original Fokker Elmo Turkey facility, selected in 2007 due to the favourable environment for international companies. After 8 months of construction, the new facility was completed in the last quarter of 2013 and began its activities in January 2014. The new facility enables further growth to more than 400 employees in the next 5 years and optimizes its current manufacturing, engineering and supply chain management operations.
Fokker Elmo is presently second in its area in the international market for aircraft and aircraft engine electrical interconnection systems. The new Izmir facility is Fokker Elmo’s 4th global centre. Outside of Izmir, the company has facilities in Holland, China and the U.S.
