The company’s competitive strategy is based on adding value to the whole business environment - from the end-user to other participants in the competition, from average citizen to government. Within this concept, Havelsan has formed a business ecosystem that has at its centre, cooperation, rather than competition, with foreign, domestic, global and local companies.

The company’s contract with ATLAS GmbH, MOU with Rheinmetall, teaming agreement with Raytheon and strategic cooperation protocol with Roketsan are indicative of this strategic focus.

Havelsan’s synergistic relationship with the Turkish armed forces has not only fuelled its ability to understand the latter’s needs but has also underlined the company’s already strong presence in the country. At the same time, in line with its strategy to enhance its focus on the international market, Havelsan has prioritised marketing activities in the Gulf States and the Far East – areas which coincide with the Turkish government’s foreign relations objectives.

As a result, Havelsan's backlog has increased continuously over the years reaching US $ 1,082 million in 2010. At the end of 2010, Havelsan widened its customer portfolio to include military and civil public sectors, both in domestic and foreign markets.

“Havelsan is the only company that offers its electronic warfare test and training range to three air forces namely Turkish, South Korean and Pakistani Air Forces,” adds Özkal. “In 2010, foreign projects accounted for 32 per cent of Havelsan’s backlog.”

The company is building a strong competitive brand in the Information Technologies (IT), simulation and training systems and C4I systems segments of the market. Its extensive, high quality portfolio and unique pricing policy – ‘American Technology at Turkish Price’ – has only served to further strengthen its competitive ability.

The Frost & Sullivan Competitive Strategy Leadership Award is presented to the company that has excelled in leveraging of competitive intelligence, executing a competitive strategy and competitive brand positioning (brand strength and unique market position). The company is also lauded for its impact on market share and customer satisfaction/value.
