GE and TEI Engine Industry in Joint Venture for Manufacturing Blisk in Turkey

General Electric (GE) signed an important contract with TEI for the manufacturing of blisks at TEI’s factory in Eskişehir. Blisks are indispensable parts of LEAP motors of CFM International. TEI’s Chairman of the Board Dr. Hakkı Doğankaya and GE’s President and CEO Jeffrey Immelt announced the new manufacturing contract with a press conference. With this contract, TEI shall become a specialized facility in the production of blisks for the LEAP engines manufactured by CFM International – a joint venture of GE Aviation and French Company Snecma. 
In his speech at the ceremony GE President and CEO Jeffrey Immelt expressed that this partnership with TEI Engine Industries has been the stepping stone and first in country’s aviation sector considering GE’s strong past in Turkey. Jeffrey Immelt said, “This LEAP engine, which is a product of ecomagination stressing the importance we attach to the environment, is a symbol of a great step towards fuel and cost efficiency in the development of aircraft engine technology.  This initiation is in compliance with the goals of reinforcing the local manufacturing and supporting the exports for increasing the competitiveness of the country that is included in Turkey’s vision of year 2023”.
Stating that the partnership with GE, brought TEI closer to the vision of becoming a global, competitive and highly-qualified player in the aviation sector and added, “TEI, acquired a great competence in this industry with the leadership of a strong team composed of Turkish professionals. We are proud to be a part of this extraordinary technological innovation and highly motivated to start the manufacturing of the blisks for LEAP engines”.
Increasing its production capacity with high technology, TEI shall produce blisks in five different stages at its factory in Eskişehir within the scope of this long-term contract. This contract shall elevate TEI’s existing technological competence that contain parts production, maintenance, repair and revision (MRO) services for aerial vehicles to higher levels. Besides, it would create an employment of more than 200 personnel and increase Turkey’s capacity in the globally exporting of aviation products. 
CFM officially launched the LEAP engine in 2008. LEAP engine’s philosophy is based on advanced aero-dynamics, development of environment and material technology programs. In addition to the 15 % fuel saving, these technologies shall provide a decrease in CO2 emission as much as the best engine of CFM.  Moreover there will be a major decrease in engine noise and emissions. 
As the greatest commercial aircraft engine supplier, CFM provided 25.000 engines to more than 530 operators in the world. Among the LEAP engines and service contracts’ global customers, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, TUI Travel, International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), AirAsia, CIT Group, BOC Aviation and Qantas/JetStar exist.
