Having completed the development and qualification phase after intensive engineering efforts, the serial production deliveries of HEWS, Aselsan EW Self Protection System, has started. After completing the validation of the system specifications for the Radar Warning Receiver, RF Jammer and Laser Warning Receiver together with the specifications for suite integration with Chaff/Flare Dispensing System and Missile Warning System in 2014, the ground and flight tests of the system on board platform has been successfully completed and the first serial deliveries has been performed within April 2015.
The RF Jammer System constituting of Solid State Power Amplifiers making use of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology, implemented for helicopters for the first time around the world, has been developed by Aselsan in house. The Radar Warning Receiver, consisting of Instantaneous Frequency Measurement and Superheterodyne Digital Receivers allowing high accuracy of arrival and high sensitivity, covering the whole frequency band and performing frequency scanning at the same time, has been designed by Aselsan. The Laser Warning Receiver detecting and identifying the laser threats for platforms has also been developed by Aselsan in house within the scope of the Project.
The two subsystems of HEWS, Chaff/Flare Dispensing System and Missile Warning System have been in use on board various platforms of Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) in real battlefield conditions. From now on, the air platforms of TAF will have a lot more effective and wider scope of protection with HEWS, which is now a complete qualified suite.
Aselsan’s intention is to configure HEWS according to the different user requirements, thanks to the modular architecture of the system, to satisfy the self protection needs of platforms within and outside of Turkey.
