Koral System to Paralyze the Hostile Radar
Commander of the Turkish Air Forces Full General Abidin Ünal and Undersecretary for Defence Industries Prof. İsmail Demir as well as many senior invitees attended the ceremony held at Aselsan’s Gölbaşı premises.
In his speech at the ceremony, Undersecretary for Defense Industries Prof. İsmail Demir expressed that the electronic warfare was composed of the attempts conducted in electromagnetic spectrum towards detection, neutralization and for dominating the threats and targets in an operational environment.
Pointing out the fact that the wars endured in recent years demonstrated the importance of electronic warfare, Prof. Demir stressed that the concept once again came into light, throughout the crisis that the states went through. Prof. Demir mentioned that the relevant authorities and institutions were aware of the vulnerability regarding the electronic warfare and underlined that the defense industry was exerting efforts with all its components to this end. Prof. Demir stated that they were happy to have the Project launched in the vulnerable atmosphere they remained in. Prof. Demir continued, “We expect this project to become a beacon of hope for the Airborne SOJ (Stand-off Jammer) as well as we frequently bring the demands considering this area to the agenda during our close collaboration with Turkish Air Forces. Hopefully, this ceremony will increase our determination and will regarding this subject and accelerate this project. Additionally, studies on support and attack systems located on fixed, ground, air and naval platforms, auto-protection systems, Jammer systems regarding hand-made explosives; test, development and installation of electronic warfare equipment and training are ongoing. We are fully determined to continue such studies in various environments as well as pursue our mission of furnishing our security forces with the most modern weapons and equipment”.
Prof. Demir also mentioned the importance of technological competence in defense industry and added, “The studies conducted herein will be as effective as the efficiency of our security forces and armed forces’ fight at the battlefield”.
In his speech at the delivery ceremony, Aselsan Chief Executive Officer Dr. Faik Eken said, “As Aselsan, for over forty years, we have been working with all our power and capacity to fulfill our Turkish Armed Forces’ demands in the defense electronics area with developed and indigenous technological solutions. One of the fruits of these efforts is the Land-Based “Koral” system which will be delivered and launched into operation here today. This system, which will remain as the pioneer amongst the Electronic Warfare capabilities of the Turkish Armed Forces, constitutes an important stage for our defense industry and Aselsan as well. We are proud to have delivered this system which is developed by a few countries and remaining in the inventory of a limited number of countries as well, indigenously for our army. Prior to its delivery to our army, “Koral” system passed over a thousand tests during the acceptance tests. Aselsan collaborated with approximately fifty domestic sub-contractors for the development of this product which assumed a remarkable role in the defense Industry of the Turkey. The majority of these sub-contractors were SMEs. Our SMEs assumed various tasks ranging from the initiation of the Project until the end of the production and over 500 thousand hours were spent for design workmanship of the Project. I express my gratitude to our Air Forces Command and our Undersecretariat for Defense Industries for their trust and assigning us the development of the “Koral” system Project which we believe will be fulfilling our Turkish Armed Forces’ operational requirements considerably. Aselsan will be successfully accomplishing many great projects with the trust and support of you”.
Following the speeches, the certificates for the young trees which were planted in commemoration of the delivery were granted to Aselsan Chairman of the Board Dr.Mustafa Murat Şeker, Commander of the Turkish Air Forces Full General Abidin Ünal and Undersecretary for Defense Industries Prof. İsmail Demir.
“Koral” System will paralyze Hostile Air Defense Radar
“Koral” Land-Based Transportable Radar Electronic Attack System is composed of the Electronic Support System (Koral ED) and Electronic Attack System (KORAL ET), each mounted on an 8x8 military truck, and operating in a broadband frequency. The vehicles can be up to 500 m away from each other, communicating via fiber-optic cables. Koral ED System conducts the detection, recognition and navigation functions for radar broadcasts while Koral ET System executes the jamming and deception of the target radars thus paralyzing them. As a result of these qualities, “Koral” System is capable of building a significant weakness in the air defense systems of target countries.
The intense verification and system testing process conducted since 2013 and the affirmative results acquired from the electronic attack trials applied to the radar systems in modern and complex structures during the final stage of the system test process, increase the reliability of the system.
With the help of the active electronic scanning components, regarded as the defense technology of the future used in system components, electronic attacks could be realized efficiently against multiple targets. The technological know-how acquired during the Project in respect to the active electronic scanning components can be used in many radar and electronic warfare systems as well. This technology, owned by a limited number of countries in the world, conveys considerable importance as it indicates the level that Turkey has achieved, as a country, in the electronic warfare sector.
