The “Workshop on the Passage from 4,5G to 5G and the Importance of Domestic Industry” during which the developments shaping the future of mobile Technologies in Turkey and cooperation opportunities in this area were discussed and the signing ceremony of the “Development of Software Defined Network (SDN) Technologies (MILAT) Project” were held at Nuri Demirağ Hall at the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM).
Prior to the signature ceremony for the contract regarding the execution of the Development of Software Defined Network Technologies (MILAT) Project between the SSM and information technologies company Argela, Undersecretary for Defense Industries Prof. İsmail Demir addressed the participants. Prof. Demir underlined that the Development of Software Defined Network Technologies MILAT Project will provide a national and secure 5G network infrastructure to Turkey and added, “With the help of this Project, we will be acquiring the capability of centrally controlling the transmission lines of the security – critical communication infrastructure. And this will allow the opportunity to implement the national cyber security policies in infrastructures”.
In his speech, Argela Deputy Director General Mr. Selim Sarper emphasized that MILAT Project was a quite important project utilizing software defined network technologies and containing the principles of cloud computing transfer by virtualizing the network functions and shared the details of the process with the participants. Mr. Sarper said, “We committed to accomplish the MILAT Program within two years to our Undersecretariat for Defense Industries. We will reach a technological maturity in two years. Until today, we conducted demonstrations that exceeded beyond the laboratory prototypes. We took great credits. I would like to express that we are progressing towards a technology with an ever-increasing maturity level in a more prepared and more comprehensive manner. As a result of these studies, we promise the future generations a technologically competent Turkey”.

Aimed to be Accomplished in Two Years
MILAT Project is regarded as one of the most si gnificant R&D projects which aim to carry Turkey’s network infrastructure in public safety and its information security to the highest level. Within the scope of MILAT Project, virtualization technologies allowing the multiple independent institutions’ common utilization of the virtual switchers enabling the development of network components independent from the hardware vendors and the same network infrastructure and network resources will be developed.
The Project aiming to minimize the foreign dependency in this area through the national 5G network infrastructure is planned to be completed within two years. When the Project is accomplished, important advantages will be gained for the cyber security and defence mechanisms required in Turkey’s information and communication network infrastructures which bear critical importance.
