MTU Turkey is Powering Major Turkish Projects MILGEM and ALTAY
MTU Turkey started to produce MILGEM engines in Turkey
The Tognum company MTU Turkey and the Turkish defense forces have built up a close partnership over decades both in the area of land vehicles and in the naval sphere. “As MTU Turkey, we are proud of creating value by offering our business partners reliable customized solutions. Besides the Series 4000 cylinder sleeve production in our Hadımköy facilities since 2009, we have started production of Series 595 Engines in 2012 which are also used at Turkish National Corvette “MİLGEM”. This production is an important proof for the technology level that MTU Turkey reached” says Ekrem Kuraloglu, Managing Director of MTU Turkey.
MTU exhibits propulsion system for “ALTAY” Main Battle Tank
At the IDEF defense exhibition from 07 to 10 May in Istanbul, (Hall 7) MTU will be exhibiting engines and complete drive systems for land vehicles and ships for defense purposes. One of the highlights is “Euro-Power Pack” which is powering the prototypes for the future Turkish “ALTAY” Main Battle Tank. Altay prototypes were presented by lead integrator Otokar in fall 2012. The heart of the latest version of the Euro-PowerPack is the MTU MT 883 diesel engine with common rail injection and an output of 1,100 kW. The cooling and air filtration systems are integrated in the PowerPack. The outstanding superiority of this proven drive unit in terms of compactness and power-to-weight ratio is based on the high level of integration and a unique compact design with component configuration. The Euro-PowerPack was developed by MTU to power the future generations of Main Battle Tanks.
About IDEF 2013 exhibits, MTU will also be showing its model 6R 106 and 6V 199 engines in defense segment. Each of these engine series sets the standard in its own particular class when it comes to powering light and medium-heavy tracked and wheeled vehicles. In addition, customers can also choose from a range which includes purely commercial engines, engines adapted for defense applications and engines specially developed for defense applications.
In the naval segment, MTU’s exhibits include “Callosum” automation system for simulation purposes, Series 2000 engine and Series 4000 & Series 8000 marine engine models.
