During IDEF '23 Fair, Nurol Makina showcased its latest NMS-L 4×4 Light Armored Vehicle. During the launch ceremony, Nurol Makina Deputy General Manager Anıl KAREL, and Nurol Holding Chairman Mehmet Oğuz ÇARMIKLI unveiled the vehicle to the press.
The NMS-L 4x4 pickup version is armed with the 30mm CANİK VENOM-LR and Unirobotics-manufactured TRAKON 30 Medium Caliber Weapon Turret, as well as ILGAR Smart Loitering Munition that can be launched from an 8-cell launcher. Following the ceremony, Vasyl BODNAR, Ukraine's Ambassador to Ankara, received information about the NMS-L 4x4 from Nurol Makina Deputy General Manager Anıl KAREL and Nurol Holding Chairman Mehmet Oğuz ÇARMIKLI.
The NMS-L 4x4 ballistic protection can be scaled according to NATO Stanag 4569, ensuring its ability to withstand various ballistic threats, mines, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the battlefield. The vehicle features an automatic fire suppression system for the engine compartment and personnel cabin. Designed to operate in extreme temperatures, the vehicle can withstand conditions ranging from -32°C to +55°C. With its fully independent suspension system, the NMS-L 4x4 pickup offers superior off-road performance and also includes additional features such as run-flat tires and a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS). MSN-L 4x4 is designed with four side doors and one rear door, providing easy access for up to five personnel. The safety of occupants is further prioritized with 5-point seat belts. The vehicle's empty weight is 8 tons and can be increased up to 12 tons with modular armor plates. The NMS-L 4x4 pickup can be transported using the CH-47's Sling Carry system, providing rapid deployment to various locations.
The vehicle is powered by a 300hp diesel engine coupled with an automatic transmission, designed for missions in all types of terrain. It has a maximum speed of 150 km/h on paved roads and 120 km/h on unpaved roads, and its turning radius is ≤ 8.0m. Furthermore, it has a range of 700 km at a speed of 70 km/h. The NMS-L can cross water up to 0.9 meters and climb obstacles of up to 0.5 meters. It can span a side slope of 40% and has a gradient capability of 70%, enabling it to traverse steep and challenging terrains. The vehicle is also capable of crossing trenches up to 0.9 meters wide.
Optional features include a manual open turret system, remote-controlled weapon station, front night vision driver support system (Low light intensity camera with adjustable monitor brightness), a 360° Driver Enhancement System (360° stitched dome view with 4 cameras), Engine Bay Automatic Fire Extinguishing System (Optical sensors and manual/automatic activation extinguishers), Personnel Cabin Automatic Fire Suppression and Extinguishing System (Optical sensors and manual/automatic activation extinguishers), Siren and Public Announcement System (Siren and control equipment), External Speech System (Microphone System, Simplex communication from out to inside), and a grenade launcher (4+4 76 mm Smoke Grenades).
Ilgar Loitering Munition has a total mass of 3.5 kg (1.5 kg for the drone and 2 kg for the launcher). It can easily be carried by a dismounted infantry. Multiple launchers can be integrated into vehicles. Ilgar is launched from a pneumatic system using a compressed air bottle that is sufficient for three operations. The cold launch system allows reusing a single launcher for more than 200 launches. Ilgar has a cruising speed of 120 km/h. It can climb up to 5 km altitude and can remain airborne for 15 minutes, enabling an effective range of over 20 km. Once the target has been positively identified, the Ilgar dives on the enemy asset, increasing its speed up to 160 km/h. Ilgar's 400g multi-purpose warhead can defeat 200 mm RHA (Rolled Homogeneous Armor) with a secondary anti-personnel effect.
Nurol Makina Deputy General Manager Anıl KAREL stated that the NMS-L 4x4 fills the gap in the company's light vehicle class. "The cabin of the vehicle was constructed entirely with mechanical connections, using bolt-on technology. All mine, explosive, ballistic protection, and various road qualification tests have been conducted. It was quite successful. The protection level of the vehicle's cabin compartment can be increased up to level 4 with add-on armor panels, as is the case with other NMS vehicles. The front part of the vehicle is designed with composites, and we have the option to upgrade it to different protection levels. The rear part is designed as a pickup vehicle. There is an internal passageway to the back. It has the capacity to carry up to 5 passengers. The vehicle has a 4-ton payload capability. This allows us to integrate both weapons and mission systems onto the vehicle simultaneously. Our vehicle is equipped with a remote-controlled turret armed with a 30mm weapon system. There is also 'smart loitering munition' at the back, designed to eliminate current threats on the battlefield. Therefore, we wanted to introduce these two systems integrated with our vehicle."
