Otokar Showcases the New Vehicles and Turret Systems in IDEF 15’
Otokar plans to unveil its newly developed armored vehicle and turret system in addition to current vehicles in its portfolio at IDEF 2015, the 12th International Defence Industry Fair, to be held on 5-8 May 2015. Otokar also plans to exhibit the final prototype of Altay at its stand.
In 2013, Otokar presented its first tracked armored vehicle, namely “Tulpar”, the youngest member of “Cobra”, namely “Cobra II”, armored personnel carrier, namely “Ural” and its new turret systems. In IDEF 2015, Otokar will exhibit its armored vehicles in different types and configurations vary from ¾ to 60 tons, from 4x4 to 8x8 at Hall 7 and stand no 712.
Qualification Tests to initiate at Altay Program
As per the latest press statement made by Otokar, it was moved to the final phase at the Turkish Main Battle Tank “Altay” Program. Phase III prototype development and qualification activities are ongoing. The Test Readiness Test (TRR) meeting was held together with the committees from Land Forces Command and SSM between March 17 and April 6, prior to the system qualification tests, which are one of the most important processes of the final phase. The qualification tests are aimed to be initiated in April 2015 together with the committees from Land Forces Command and SSM.
“Tulpar” getting ready to durability tests with its new power units
The development of “Tulpar” in different versions and technical features still continues. The durability tests of “Tulpar” will be initiated in the forthcoming days with its new power units, the integration activities of which were completed.
The final stage has been reached in Tulpar’s Mobility Tests which were held successfully. With its modular armor technology and outmatch ballistic and mine protection, “Tulpar”, which is able to provide effective support to new generation tanks at the battlefield, also provides fire support to 9-person rifle squad.
Having an outstanding mobility under tough weather and field conditions, “Tulpar” has sufficient growth potential to meet the future protection needs thanks to its large internal volume, high payload and flexible electronic architecture. “Tulpar” also has a modular structure that enables its users to integrate different types of turrets.
Arma’s Winter Tests Completed
As per the press statement made by Otokar in April, it was announced that the winter tests of Wheeled Armored Vehicle Arma 6x6 and 8x8 were completed.
With its modular structure and capabilities, “Arma” serves in a wide variety of task fields. It also comes into prominence as an ideal platform for its users for various purposes. Offering a low silhouette solution in battlefields as well as for the requirements of modern armies regarding survivability, protection and mobility, ARMA is able to utilize various weapon systems ranging from 7.62 mm to 105 mm. ARMA family can also be used in various types of mission configurations such as Armored Personnel Carrier, Infantry Fighting Vehicle, Command Post, Ambulance, CBRN Reconnaissance, Driver Training, Reconnaissance, etc. Amphibious capability option is also available as per the user’s requirements.
“Cobra” is at its new UN Mission
With its optimized body angles and monocoque structure, “Cobra” differentiates itself amongst other vehicles in its class with remarkable protection against explosives and mines. Otokar announced that it received an order for “Cobra” from an African country in order to be used in two different forces. It was also announced that the first delivery was made in the past few days and such vehicles would serve in UN forces.
