Pre-Conceptual Design Phase of the Satellite Launcher System Signed Between SSM and Roketsan

Within the scope of the Project which was commenced in order to launch the satellites into space in an independent, secure, cost efficient and unrestricted way and aims to support Turkey’s current and potential satellite demands and planned future satellite programs and the sustainability of satellite programs to be planned, first signatures were put by the officials of the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries (SSM) and Roketsan.  

At the signing ceremony held at the premises of Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), Mr. Faruk Özlü, Deputy Undersecretary, Mr. Selçuk Yaşar, President of Roketsan, Mr.Yavuz Aka, Vice President of Roketsan and officials of SSM and Roketsan were present. In his speech Faruk Özlü, Deputy Undersecretary, stated that the achievements and breaks of the Turkish defense industry were further strengthened with this Project. Selçuk Yaşar, Roketsan General Manager also expressed that the Project had an important meaning for aerospace industry and that they were proud to be a part of the Project. Yaşar mentioned that Turkey’s potential in space is related with this Project and said “I wish an auspicious Project”.  

Within the scope of the contract, design of the satellite launching center and launching equipment manufacturing facilities shall be accomplished within a year during Stage-1 and the pre-conceptual design of the launching center shall be actualized as well. The satellite launching center and the launching equipment manufacturing facilities shall be designed within a year. Additionally, in parallel with these studies determining the infrastructural needs concerning Design/Development/Manufacturing Period (Stage-2) is envisaged. As of now, 10 countries in the World have the capacity to launch satellites. All of these countries launch satellites into low earth orbit while 7 of them could also launch satellites into high earth orbit.
