Greg Pepin was honored with the “Distinguished Fellow Award 2010” at the 2nd Izmir Global Aerospace and Offset Conference 2010 (IGAC’10) organized at the Aegean Free Zone (ESBAS) for his contributions in the development of Turkish aviation as President of Boeing Turkey. On behalf of the IGAC’10 organization committee, the award was presented to Mr. Pepin by National Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul on October 7, during the reception and conference dinner held at a historic Izmir mansion.

“Boeing, with whom we have worked on many projects including AEW&C, has made important contributions to defense and offset. We would like to thank Mr. Pepin for his contributions to the aviation and defense industries in Turkey” said Minister Gonul, giving the award to Greg Pepin “as an acknowledgement of his extraordinary accomplishments in the development of the Aerospace Sector in Turkey 2nd Izmir Global Aerospace & Offset Conference Organizing Committee”.

“Receiving this award is a true honor and privilege. The Boeing Company has had a long-standing and mutually beneficial relationship with Turkey since 1945, which has become a solid technology partnership. Boeing is committed to working with and continuing to improve the aerospace industry in Turkey. In this respect, Boeing is honored to keep contributing to the success of the rapidly growing Turkish aerospace industry” said Greg Pepin, President of Boeing Turkey.

Pepin also emphasized the importance of community partnering in Turkey. “Boeing is committed to working with the Turkish community, focusing its efforts on corporate citizenship projects in a wide variety of fields--from education to health, human services and arts and culture.”

Since the first DC-3/C-47 airliners’ delivery to the Turkish Airlines’ fleet in 1945, the cooperation between Boeing and the Turkish aviation industry increasingly developed. Approximately 130 Boeing aircraft are in service with eleven Turkish operators today.

Today, Boeing not only cooperates with the Turkish aerospace industry in commercial and military aviation programs, providing the right solutions and sharing know-how, but its programs directly support more than 1,000 jobs in Turkey.

Several Turkish defense companies work for the Peace Eagle (AEW&C) program including Selex, TAI, THY, Havelsan, Ayesas, Aselsan, and Mikes. Boeing is also partnering with Turkish aerospace industries in commercial and military aviation programs to grow local capabilities and provide secure, high-value jobs. TAI, with more than twenty suppliers working on Boeing programs in Ankara, Istanbul, Izmir, Bursa, Kayseri and Eskisehir, exemplifies the broad network of partners developed by Boeing in Turkey. Boeing’s support directly resulted in the establishment of new facilities in two Turkish Free Trade Zones.

Boeing envisages placing work worth more than $1.2 billion in Turkey through 2013.
