STM Aims to Start the Construction of the STM 500 Mini Submarine in 2022

November 15th 2021 - At the 10th Naval Systems Seminar, it was declared that the production activities of the STM 500 Mini Submarine, the design stage of which was completed by Savunma Teknolojileri Mühendislik A.Ş. (STM), are to commence as of 2022.

According to the information we obtained, the contract of the STM 500 Mini Submarines is planned to be signed in 2022 and the construction of the submarines is aimed to be initiated subsequently. In the beginning, the project will not be conducted for a specific customer. Construction activities of one Mini Submarine are said to be completed in 48 months and the entire project is aimed to be completed and availed for delivery after 72 months.

During the seminar, it was revealed that STM 500 Mini Submarines have the capacity to execute Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Shallow Water Operations, Special Forces Operations, Mine Warfare and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) tasks. 

STM 500 is said to be designed in line with the Class Rules. The submarine will have a 550 ton displacement, a length of 42 meters and a range of over 4,500 sea miles.
