The Fourth And Final Search and Rescue Vessel Named “TCSG YAŞAM” Constructed by RMK Marine was Launched
The fourth Search and Rescue vessel - "TCSG 704 Yaşam", which was constructed for the Turkish Coast Guard Command by RMK Marine of Koç Holding, was launched by a ceremony. The ceremony was held with the participation of Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR, Coast Guard Commander Rear Admiral Hasan UŞAKLIOĞLU and President of Koç Holding Defence Industry, Other Automotive and Information Technology Group Kudret ÖNEN.
In his speech at the ceremony held in RMK Marine Shipyard - Tuzla, the Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR stated that the production of naval vessels having indigenous technology platforms, systems and weapons to improve mobility of Naval Forces and Coast Guard Command in Turkish shipyards has been amongst their primary objectives. "In line with this objective, we have been conducting several projects in Tuzla region and the total volume of these projects, as of today, is 2 billion US$. We have also achieved more than 60% local contribution in these projects." added BAYAR.
President of Koç Holding Defence Industry, Other Automotive and Information Technology GroupKudret ÖNEN at his speech at the launch ceremony of TCSG 704 YAŞAM said that the contract regarding the project was awarded between RMK Marine and Undersecretariat for Defence Industry in 2007 and reminded that other vessels of the Project namely DOST, GÜVEN and UMUT are at the sea test/acceptance phase and expressed their happiness to be at the launch ceremony of TCSG 704 Yaşam at RMK Marine. "With our quality and capacity investments, we are in the position to accomplish projects in naval vessel constructions, to create technology and fulfill after-construction maintenance and repair services as RMK Marine as of today. We are not making a pause in our investments. We are determined to continue our activities in order to further develop our human resources as well as construct any kinds of naval vessels including big combat vessels.The Landing Platform Dock (LPD) Project, the tender process of which is still ongoing, is amongst the foremost military projects of which RMK Marine aims to be the main contractor with its indigenous design.On the other hand, for Milgem-S Project -the next phase of Milgem Project- we are glad that RMK Marine is one of the two shipyards that the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries has requested an offer from." said ÖNEN.
Technical Qualifications of Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessels:
Each vessel within the scope of the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessel Project has an overall length of 88 meters, width of 12 meters and weight of 1700 tones. In terms of their dimensions and capacities, these vessels belong to "corvette class" and were equipped to perform multitasks such as patrolling, preventing smuggling, fire extinguishing and preventing environmental pollution in addition to their search and rescue tasks.
The speed of the vessels is over 22 knots per hour and they will have fittings necessary for the fulfillment of their undertakings by operational capability with helicopters.
Within the scope of the project, the design and production of the critical military systems such as the command and control system software and hardware, electro optical directors, communication systems, gyro systems, firing control systems and consoles were performed by local capabilities of our country.
The first three Coast Guard Search and Rescue Vessels, namely TCSG-701 DOST, TCSG-702 GÜVEN and TCSG-703 UMUT are under sea test / acceptance phase. All of the vessels are planned to be delivered to the Coast Guard Command within 2012.
