With European Union financing the five patrol boats built at Tuzla by Istanbul Shipyard for the Romanian Border Police are ready to undertake search and rescue, anti-terror and smuggling, patrolling and control of pollution on the Danube River. The boats will carry out their activities in four different corners of Romania. Two boats will patrol the Ukrainian border, the third boat the Moldavian border, the fourth boat the Croatian border and the fifth boat with Hungarian border.

As of November 2010, the turnkey construction was completed and after tests conducted on the boats were delivered to the Border Patrol of the Romanian Ministry of the Interior. In this way the contract signed on 13 January2010 for the project was completed and delivered in a record time.

Some of the special above deck equipment on these boats are as the following: a thermal camera with night vision that is indispensible for patrolling duties; explosive and narcotics detector and Geiger counter to be used in investigation and inspection operations and specially designed radar for river navigation.

The patrol boats that also include many other special features were built at a cost of approximately 1.5 million euro each.  Financed by the EU Schengen organization, the successful defence industry export makes known our name within the European Union. In addition, that it is a turnkey delivery project, in other words that every smallest detail is manufactured in our country and delivery to the user’s location also puts the project at the forefront.

Behind the successful delivery of this project by the Istanbul Shipyard is the experience and accumulation of knowledge in the Coast Guard Boat Modernization Project realized in 2008. The tender of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries lasted two years and as a result of the modernization process the maximum speed of the four boats were increased to 29 knots. Within the coverage of the modernization of the coast guard boats, all of the engine rooms were renewed and the propulsion systems replaced.

Since its founding Istanbul Shipyard has undertaken small scale, specialized ship buildings and has spearheaded many projects in the Tuzla shipyard. As of 2004 it has successfully completed the construction of eleven various tanker projects varying from 5,850 DWT to 10,500 DWT. Two of these projects are IMO II Ice Class noncorrosive chemical tankers of 5,700 DWT. The cargo tanks of these tankers have been constructed using Duplex 2205 stainless steel.
