Istanbul Shipyard is the most visionary and proactive shipyard in the market, ahead of other shipyards by projecting its development plans much more effectively than its competitors and offering its customers complete design, new building, repair, maintenance, conversion and modernization of any kind of vessel.

The shipyard was actually founded in the 1980s, however, it wasn’t until 2003 when under the flag of SNR Holding, the name Istanbul Shipyard was created and the work and interest at the yard increased and diversified. With the creation of ABS Metal in 2006 and with the recent participation of SNR Shipyard (a neighbour also under the SNR Holding structure), Istanbul Shipyard covers a total area of 32,500 m2 and enclosed area of 14,400 m2.
Their primary mission is protecting the environment and providing an accident-free work field. In this context, starting from the contractual stage Istanbul Shipyard is following all procedures with IFS enterprise resource planning applications, forming multi-disciplinary structure under the national and international laws and conventions with EN ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, OHSAS 18001:2007, NATO Secret and National Secret Facility Security Clearance Certificates and at the same time working under appropriate European Union norms.
Eleven new chemical tankers were delivered successfully within the years 2004 to 2010. Three of them were stainless steel chemical tankers, two 5700 DWT and one 3500 DWT, their cargo tanks built with special Duplex 2205 stainless steel.
Those are followed by two offshore support and research vessels, which were built for a famous, Norwegian company in 2008 and 2009 and four units SAR 35 boats were delivered to theTurkish Coast Guard before the agreed time with a higher performance than the requirements of the modernization agreement in 2009. For another successful contract five units SNR 17 Patrol Boats were delivered to the Romanian Border Police in 2010.
By 2011, the company started the second part of its large scale reconstruction. A new nine-floor administration building with a helicopter platform on its top was built in addition to two prefabrication workshops, a blasting and painting workshop and a piping workshop to help the shipyard cope with recently awarded projects.
As of today, One Submarine Rescue Mother Ship (SNR MOSHIP) and Two Rescue and Towing Ships (SNR RATSHIP) for the Turkish Navy and one Scientific Research  Vessel (SNR SEISMIC) for the Turkish General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration are under construction in the Shipyard. Regarding the modernization projects of 5 set SAR 33, two of them were delivered to the Coast Guard successfully and three of them are planned to be delivered in 2015.
Under the SNR Holding Group, Istanbul Shipyard has a design company, “SEFT”, of around 45 employees, including the most experienced designers in the sector. Most of the projects, including the most experienced complicated current projects, are completely designed by Istanbul Shipyard’s own team. Istanbul Shipyard is able to design any kind of vessel.
Besides, SEFT and ABS Metal, there is a young and energetic Research & Development company under SNR Holding Group, MILPER, which was founded in 2011. MİLPER focuses on the design and development of marine propeller and shaft pairs, including both Fixed- and Controllable –Pitch Propellers (FPPS and CPPs).
Within the scope of Submarine Rescue Mother Ship and Rescue and Towing Ship Project Tender that covers the acquisition of 1 (one) Submarine Rescue Mother Ship and 2 (two) Rescue and Towing Ships, the contract negotiations with Istanbul Shipyard – the winner of the tender as per the Defense Industry Executive Committee decision dated 15 June 2010 -  were finalized and Submarine Rescue Mother Ship Acquisition Contract and Rescue and Towing Ship Acquisition Contract were signed between the Undersecretariat for Defense Industry and Istanbul Shipyard on October 28th, 2011.
The Submarine Rescue Mother Ship is capable of providing the lifesaving support to the disabled submarine and evacuating the crew. The Rescue and Towing Ships is capable of towing the broken down, wrecked and ran ashore ships as well as fire-fighting. Moreover, both ships, which are equipped by the modern rescue systems and equipment such as remotely operated vehicle (ROV), atmospheric diving suit, submarine ventilation system, emergency life support system, pressure rooms etc., they can also perform the underwater repair work and wreck removal through divers, atmospheric diving suit and remotely operating underwater vehicles.
The design, construction, outfitting and integration of the Submarine Rescue Mother Ship and Rescue and Towing Ships are performed by Istanbul Shipyard. In this scope, the total industry participation and offset percentage of 65 % is enable the utilization of Turkish industry capabilities through the acquisition of the construction material and services as well as most of the systems to be integrated on the ships.
In addition to these distinguished projects, within the scope of Seismic Research Vessel Project Tender that covers the construction of 1 (one) Seismic Research Vessel for the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, the contract negotiation with Istanbul Shipyard – the winner of the tender as per the Defense Industry Executive Committee decision dated 14 June 2011 -  was finalized and Seismic Research Vessel Contract was signed between the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and Istanbul Shipyard on April 24th, 2012
Within the Project with its 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional seismic research capacity, the Seismic Research Vessel is capable of performing the researches as well as the seismic surveys. The ship which is  equipped by the modern seismic and research systems such as streamers, air-guns, seismic processing unit, seismic recording unit, seismic navigation unit, sub-bottom profiller, marine magnetometer, marine gravimeter, oceanographic measurement equipment, geologic sampling equipment and remotely operated vehicle (ROV), can conduct the research and sampling activities regarding the geophysics, geology, geotechnics, batimetry, hydrography, oceanography, hydroacustic and earthquakes.
The design, construction, outfitting and integration of the Seismic Research Vessel is performed by Istanbul Shipyard. In this scope, the total industry participation and offset percentage of 50 % is enable the utilization of Turkish industry capabilities through the acquisition of most of the systems to be integrated on the ship, construction material and services as well as the integration of seismic and research equipment and systems. Seismic Research Vessel has been launched by March 2015.
In addition to these projects, Istanbul Shipyard has signed for the modernization of 5 SAR 33 boats of the Turkish Coast Guard. After a great success of the “SAR 35 (Mid-Life) Modernization Project” Turkish Coast Guard Command decided to also modernize with 5 SAR 33 Boats that are another class of boats of their command. This modernization has a bit bigger scope of work then SAR 35, which includes the renewal of the main engine and propulsion system, diesel gen-set and auxiliary system, replacing the shell plating, renewal of furniture in the living environment, changing 1 MC announcement system and their equipment and changing the bridge consoles. As the electric system will change from 440 V to 380 V AC,  all the equipment which are working in 440 V will then be working 380 V AC after the modernization.
Their broad technical knowledge within the shipping industry has ensured their steady growth and resulted in Istanbul Shipyard becoming specialist within the ship repair and conversion market.
Due to flexible project management along with highly qualified and motivated staff, orders are completed rapidly, carefully and punctually. Sophisticated equipment and optimal docking facilities guarantee that customer requirements are met and allow the kind of versatility that is expected from Istanbul Shipyard.
