The work under the contract started on 12 February 2024, and the Critical Design Review process of the Qatar Emiri Navy's two 50 m Guided Missile Fast Attack Crafts Project was successfully completed last month with the valuable contributions of the Project Control Office personnel.
At the current stage, the ‘Keel Laying Ceremony’ of the two 50 m Guided Missile Fast Attack Crafts, which are being built at Dearsan Shipyard for the needs of the Qatar Navy, was held at Dearsan Shipyard on 23 December 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the participation of the Qatar State Delegation led by Major General Abdullah Hassan Al Sulaiti, Commander of the Qatar State Navy.
The 50.76 m full length, 9.53 m full width, 2.10 m draft, 36 knots maximum speed, and 1000 nautical mile range Missile Attack Crafts are designed to operate effectively in the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
The primary missions of the 50 m Guided Missile Fast Attack Crafts are; surface warfare with surface guided missiles and 40 mm cannon, air defence warfare with anti-air guided missiles, asymmetric warfare with 12.7 mm stabilized and manual machine guns, and Electronic Warfare with Electronic Support System in the areas around Qatar and in the Arabian Sea.
The secondary missions of the ships are patrolling, protecting territorial waters, combating piracy, arms, and drug trafficking, surveillance, and search & rescue operations in inland and coastal areas.
Having completed the Preliminary Design Evaluation process on 3 July 2024, the Critical Design Evaluation phase of the Qatar 50-metre Guided Missile Fast Attack Crafts project was completed on 28 November 2024.
The DEARSAN-designed Qatar 50m Guided Missile Fast Attack Crafts will be advanced technology ships that will significantly increase the naval capabilities of the Qatar Navy.
