Minister Gönül said that various projects were initiated to keep the sustainability of national interests, to produce military ships with national designs in home and to take a place among the top ten countries which runs in this area. Minister Gönül noting that the policies the government has introduced recently are promising in this area said “Big projects were initiated to make the ship construction and related industry meet the needs of defense industry. For the first time, the corvette-type warfare ship was designed and integrated with national capabilities entirely thanks to the “National Ship Project”. “Heybeliada Warfare Ship” which is still being constructed in Istanbul Shipyard Command in the context of National Ship Project will be stroked into the sea in 27 September 2008. Also, the projects on constructing 2 fast intervention boats and 4 emergency intervention boats in Istanbul Deniz Shipyard in addition to 4 coast guard search and rescue ship in Remaka Shipyard, 16 modern patrol boats in Dersan Shipyard, coast guard in Yonca Onuk Shipyard were signed. It was aimed the private sector to participate in military ship projects. Many projects to be declared in coming days also will be produced in private sector ports. As a result we will have specialized private sector ports which are competitive in foreign markets”.

Mr. Murat Bayar, The Undersecretariat of Ministry of Industry who gave a speech in meeting gave information about military ship projects to Rear Admiral Sami Örgüç, the Director of Supply of Naval Forces Command and Vice admiral Can Erenoglu, the Chief of Coast Guard Command.

On the day of Industry which provides appropriate platform in order to promote the coordination and cooperation between supply and demand agencies, industries, universities and research institutes; the firms which operate as a contractor and subcontractor on the projects of the Undersecretariat of Defence Industry informed the ship construction and its related industry about the activities which are conducted and to be conducted so that the designs of the ships required by our naval forces are national and the ship construction and supply equipments including critical systems are produced at home by sharing their acquisition, experiences, their plans and expectations with the participants and “Ship Product Breakdown” established by taking the military ships to be supplied in the coming period between 15 and 20 years into consideration.





II. Quality Convention by Undersecretariat of Defense Industry



Second Quality Convention was held by Undersecretariat of Defense Industry on 25th December 2007. Mr. Vecdi Gönül, Minister of National Defense; Mr. Murad Bayar, Undersecretary of Defense Industry; Admiral Mr. Can Erenoğlu, Commander of Coast Guard Command; top level administrators of Defense Industry Companies, instructors from universities and many top level military and civil invitee attended the conference.



The convention which began with the speech of Murad Bayar, Undersecretary of Defense Industry, was held in 2 separate sessions. In the convention, where chairmen of SSM, Directorate of Administration of Developing and Supporting Small and Medium Industry (KOSGEB) and Defense Industry Manufacturers Association (SASAD) provided contribution with their presentations, projects carried out with Undersecretariat of Defense Industry, new approaches in certification of weapon, ammunition and rocket- missile procurements, problems and solution proposals about product quality in product inspections, and effect of quality in increasing institutional effectiveness issues were discussed. In addition to representatives from SSM, KOSGEB and SASAD, representatives from Başkent and Gazi Universities, Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), Havelsan, FNSS Defense Systems, TUSAŞ, Milsoft, Barutsan and some other private sector companies working in defense industry field were attended the convention.
