Akana Engineering: Partner of Giant Defence Companies
Akana Engineering was founded as a Project Office in 1990. In its early stages until the year 2000, Akana has undertaken indigenous Engineering projects in various subjects such as; providing construction chemicals and white goods production machinery.
Starting from the year 2000, Akana Engineering shifted its focus to the Defence Industry and today, nearly all of Akana’s efforts are in various fields within the Defence Industry. With 25 years of history and expertise, Akana provides trustworthy and sustainable engineering solutions to the Industry’s prime contractors and contributes to the strategic goals of the Turkish National Defence Industry.
Since the year 2010, Akana engineering has been operating in Ankara/Malikoy Baskent, Organized industrial zone with its two factory buildings which cover an area up to nearly 4700m^2. Most of Akana’s R&D, Design&Development activities and nearly all of its production, assembly-integration and test-verification activities are carried out in these facilities.
Akana Engineering has embodied a high level of quality management strategies and acquired the Quality Management System Certificate (Design&manufacturing of special purposes machinery and production lines)-ISO 9001, Environment Management System Certificate-ISO 14001 and (OHSAS)Health and Safety Management Certificate-ISO 18001, Which are Industry required quality certifications. Moreover, Akana has the NSPA ( NATO Support and Procurement Agency) and MSB (Turkish National Ministery of Defence) approved facility security clearence certificates that allows Akana to safeguard classified information up to “NATO SECRET” level and undertake confidential projects.
Akana’s 15 years of expertise in implementing indigenous engineering solutions succesfully, has allowed them to become an approved supplier both for the end users; MSB, NSPA and the industry’s prime contractors; Aselsan, TAI and FNSS.
Providing reliable and sustainable services to the Defence Industry also requires experienced and highly skilled personnel. Accordingly, Akana aims to constantly improve all of its 70 experienced personnel with continuing education, specialization, and spreading Akana’s quality perception to all of the processes in the company.
Akana Engineering provides head to tail service for its customers and prime contractors including design, analysis, production, assembly, integration, test and logistic support under product life cycle approach.
In order to achieve the (TQM) quality management approach, Akana incorporates, highly skilled personnel, most sophisticated design and analysis engineering softwares, modern production and testing machinery, high technology materials, processes, (ILS) Integrated logistics Support and management approachs within its body.
While providing indigenous solutions for the defence industry, Akana also aims to become a recognized reliable and sustainable brand in some of the fields where important know-how and experience has been accumulated, R&D activities play a key role toward this goal. Since further R&D activities require highly qualified personnel, in order to provide the means for employment of required skilled workforce, Akana has undertaken an R&D center investment located in Hacettepe Technopark.
Akana Engineering acknowledges that R&D activities are the most vital part in creating reliable engineering solutions. With this understanding, Akana has undertaken almost 91 succesful projects in it’s 25 years of existence. Among these 91 projects, 25 of them were various specialized R&D projects, some of which ended up becoming registered products with patent licence certification.

Ammunition transfer system Project (POYRAZ) for an 155mm armoured Howitzer vehicle (FIRTINA) for Aselsan. (manufacturing and qualification of two prototype set has been completed and serial production of 71 set of units are currently continuing)
Modification of land operation gearbox and development of suspension arms for FNSS Armored Amphibious Assault Bridge Vehicle.
Preliminary design of 35mm ammunition feeding system for Aselsan’s air defence system.
ATAK helicopter grip project for TAI.
UAV launcher Project for TAI.
600.000 Nm azimuth/elevation angular positioning system Project for Aselsan.
Conceptual design of a Rotary wing UAV (Sivrisinek) Project for TAI.
Thermal battery production machinery Project for Tubitak SAGE.
Joint development with Tubitak SAGE in establishing an insensitive explosive production facility for MKE.
Establishment of a phase stable ammonium nitrate production facility for Roketsan.

While most of the work is done domestically, Akana also undergoes activities in the international market. Especially by using it’s know-how and high technology solutions in the Demilitarization and energetic materials field.
In the strategically important and internationally regulated Demilitarization machinery and Energetic material production fields where Akana aims to become a recognized brand, Akana has accumulated enough know how to compete with the international companies working in these areas. While Akana is improving its current national technology and product range, it is also providing domestic and international sollutions with its brand name.
In the energetic materials production machinery area Akana has developed 1 Pint, 1 Gallon, 30 Gallon and 150 Gallon explosive mixer systems since the year 2005 and currently developing high capacity propellant/explosive mixer systems. Akana has also developed special test equipment for various propellants. With these achievements Akana has taken its place within the few domestic and international companies.
In the demilitarization field Akana has delivered various dismantling/demilitarization machines to its main domestic customers such as Roketsan. Akana also performs export business for foreign NATO projects by exporting dismantling facilities to Jordan MOD over NAMSA and designing combined explosive vest incineration facilities to Italian the MOD.
Akana Engineering has identified Turkey’s rapidly growing and expanding Space industry as a new future area of business. As a short-mid ranged goal Akana aims to become a reliable and sustainable provider also in satellite sub-systems for the domestic prime contractors such as TAI, Aselsan and Tubitak UZAY.
Akana, with it’s 25 years of expertise and know-how accumulated through one hundred successful projects, is working towards the mission and vision of the national defence & aerospace industry, and is targeting to achieve the following strategic goals;
