Aselsan is on Board with Ares for Qatar Fast Patrol

A contract was signed between Ares and Qatari Coast Guard Command in 2014 for the procurement of 17 various Coast Guard Boats composed of five 24 metre, ten 33,5 metre and two 47 metre long boats as part of covering the requirements of the Coast Guard Command of Qatar’s Ministry of Interior. Aselsan and Ares Shipyard reached a mutual understanding on the integration of the weapon systems that are to be integrated into the aforementioned boats within the scope of the programme which is planned to be accomplished within 48 months. In light of the negotiations conducted between the parties, Aselsan’s 30mm “Muhafız” and 12,7mm “STAMP” Remote Controlled Stabilized Weapon Systems will be integrated to the boats of Qatari Coast Guard Command within the scope of the Project.
Deputy Undersecretary Dr. Celal Sami Tüfekçi and Head of International Cooperation Department of Undersecretariat for Defence Industries Ms. Asuman Vangölü, Aselsan Board Member Ass. Prof. Sedat Nazlıbilek, Aselsan General Manager Dr. Faik Eken and Ares Shipyard’s Chairman Mr. Kerim Kalafatoğlu attended the signing ceremony held at the Hightech Port by MUSIAD Qatar Fair.
Deputy Undersecretary for the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries Dr. Celal Sami Tüfekçi stated that they gained a significant acquisition on behalf of Turkey through this contract and added that they believed the new business opportunities would be created in the region as a result of the cooperation among the limited expert platform and system manufacturing companies of the world.
Aselsan General Manager Dr. Faik Eken expressed that Aselsan’s stabilized weapon systems were being utilized by many gulf countries including Qatar and added “With the agreement reached here today, our existence in Qatar will be further strengthened and Qatari Coast Guard Command will become our users. I would like to state my pleasure in becoming a part of such cooperation. We would like to convey our gratitude to all the representatives of the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries especially to Ares Shipyard for their support”.
Kalafatoğlu: “We will be delivering minimum three boats in 2016”
Ares Chairman of the Board Mr. Kerim Kalafatoğlu underlined that following a five year long export period, they signed a contract in 2014 with the Qatari Coast Guard Command for the procurement of 17 various boats and added, “We preferred Aselsan for the weapon systems to be integrated to these boats. As a result, we would like to thank Aselsan and the Undersecretariat for Defence Industries for their cooperation and support”. Stating that they launched the construction of the boats within the scope of the Project, the contract of which was signed in 2014, Kalafatoğlu continued “We will deliver at least three boats in 2016 and accomplish all the deliveries to the Qatari Coast Guard Command within a total of 48 months”.
In addition to the procurement of 17 various types of boats, a total of 275 Qatari personnel will be trained by the Ares Shipyard in Qatar within the scope of the programme. Moreover, according to the programme, introduction of a comprehensive integrated logistical support package to the Qatari Coast Guard Command is planned as well.
Aselsan Remote Controlled Weapon Systems
Laser range finder, high sensitivity thermal and day vision cameras with long ranges are placed over the systems that are named either as “SARP”, “STAMP”, “STOP” or “Muhafız” according to their features and usage areas. Through these units, the targets that are not visible with the bare eyes under night, day or unfavorable weather conditions will be detected, recognized and fired efficiently with the help of the ballistic calculations achieved with the range information.
This System preferred by the armed forces of many countries is remotely controlled by a remote command unit. As a result, the shooter is capable of efficiently utilizing the system without being affected by the counter fire or bad weather conditions. With the help of the automatic video target-tracking feature, the target can be tracked automatically.
