Aselsan: Turkey’s Most Successful Research & Development Center

Centers (which have been active for at least two years starting from 2012) have been assessed, Aselsan has been Within the scope of “R&D Centers Performance Measurement Index Ranking” where 69 companies’ R&D selected as the most successful R&D Center in defence industry. Aselsan embodies a total of four R&D Centers, three in Macunköy facilities and one at Aselsan’s facilities in Akyurt.
“Competition in Science and Technology”
Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Fikri Işık stated that presently whole competition in the world occurred in science and technology and added that superiority in such areas is becoming states’ main supremacy arena. Aselsan’s General Manager Cengiz Ergeneman received the award from Minister Fikri Işık. 
Ergeneman: “R&D of 370 million USD in a Year”
Aselsan’s General Manager Cengiz Ergeneman mentioned that the vision of defence industry shaped the future of technology. Ergeneman continued: “According to data of 2012, Turkey’s total R&D expenditure is 7,3 million USD and 3,3 million USD of this amount belongs to industry sector. Aselsan alone has a 10% share of our country’s industry sector and our share in defence industry is 43%. If we take a look back at year 2013, we see that our R&D expenditure increased by 12% and reached to 370 million USD. We became an R&D Center in 2009 and from 2009 onwards our R&D expenses increased from 160 million USD to 370 million USD, number of our R&D personnel reached to 2,154 from 1,469, our number of researchers with doctoral degree increased from 47 to 115, number of our researchers with master’s degree reached to a number of 1,040 from 647. Within the scope of reverse brain drain, almost 100 engineers have been included to the personnel of Aselsanwithin the last ten years. 240 projects with 24 universities have been accomplished since 2009 and funds of 132 Million USD have been allocated to such projects”.
