Aselsan’s will to be in Service of the Armed Forces of the State of Qatar has Paid off
Aselsan, showing a steady progress since 2008 within the top 100 defence companies list of the world, hase risen her rank to the 76th place in 2011 by means of total defence revenues. Her exports reaching up to 40 countries around the world with a growing sales figure each year, seems to be the major reason to maintain this continuous growth.
In parallel to her worldwide expansion, there is a noticable increase in the activities of Aselsan within the GCC Region where the bonds between the State of Qatar Armed Forces and Aselsan is strengthening day by day.
Due to the regional instabilities and Qatar’s increasing presence in the global arena by hosting large scale international organizations, need for security has grown considerably.
Aselsan’s efforts to be a trusted supplier for Qatar Armed Forces have led to a noticeable increase of her activities in the country marked by her presence in the critical projects of the Qatar Armed Forces and other state agencies.
In scope of the development plan of the Qatar Armed Forces, Aselsan has taken active role within the procurement programs of Qatar Land and Naval Forces during the past years.
Aselsan is actively promoting her Naval Stabilized Weapon Systems in the GCC Region and has already managed to be in the inventory of several countries.
In line with the plans of Qatar Navy to establish effective coastal and border defence capabilities, combined with modern combat techniques which would reduce the risk of illegal infiltration and possible threats targeting civilians as well as armed forces, Aselsan Stabilized Weapon Systems seem to be the most favorable solution having field proven capabilities in the compelling environmental conditions of the GCC Countries. These systems were also exhibited during the DIMDEX Naval Maritime Defence Exhibition that was held in Doha in March 2012.
These indigenous products designed and developed by Aselsan of TURKEY based on the extensive experience accumulated from the applications realized in the areas of air defense and fire control system developments for tanks and self-propelled howitzers.
Aselsan Stabilized Gun Platforms can operate day/night under adverse weather and terrain conditions by employing passive surveillance sensors such as, Thermal Camera, TV Camera and Laser Range Finder. The main function of the system is better locating and tracking (automatic when desired) the target as well as maximizing the hit accuracy while providing maximum security for the gunner.
Besides the system’s automatic mode, manual back-up mode is available in case preferred. Due to the stabilization feature, the system can perform precise firings against stationary or moving targets while the platform is on-the-move. This shoot-on-the-move capability is very important for crew survivability, especially when faced with multiple armed adversaries shooting from different directions.
The systems shall certainly create a force multiplier within Qatar Navy against the existing and future threats. These systems of high efficiency, durability and reliability are planned to serve for coastal security and the protection of critical facilities and assets of the State of Qatar.
Aselsan as the design house, producer and integrator of ship-borne electronics have utilized her know-how and experience gained by the Turkish National Corvette Program – MILGEM, to take an active role within the scope Qatar Navy’s plans to procure various Naval Platforms such as Corvette, OPV, LCT Coast Guard Boats etc.
As a member of the Turkish Team formed by Aselsan, RMK SHIPYARD, STM and Havelsan companies, a proposal for the Qatar Corvette Program have been submitted with ongoing negotiations and exchange of mutual visits between Qatar Navy officials and Turkish authorities.
The proposed Corvette will contribute to the operational capabilities of the Qatar Navy with on-board state-of-the-art stabilized weapon systems, electro-optic sensors, electronic warfare/support, radar, navigation and communication systems provided and integrated by Aselsan.
The proposal of the Turkish team seems to be one step ahead taking into consideration the logistics support options and the presented cost effective approach.
The strong relations between the two brotherly countries also contribute to the strong position of the Turkish team in the program.
Qatar Armed Forces’ attendance to International Operations and increasing need of security to detect smugglers, intruders and illegal immigrants have risen the necessity of facilitating mobile and fixed assets for coastal/border security systems. Situational awareness and coordination of the units on the field is one of the main challenges faced during this transition.
Aselsan Border / Coastal Security Systems specifically designed in accordance with the requirements of Qatar Armed Forces provide an effective confrontation against emerging threats and operational scenarios with a total system solution comprising command control capabilities, communication infrastructure, sensors on fixed and mobile assets.
The system can detect, identify and track targets by land / coastal surveillance radars and electro-optic sensors. The alarms from the surveillance area are immediately displayed at the required command levels. The video transmission and remote control capabilities provide the chance to establish unmanned stations and flexibility by means of logistics support.
Coordination of the units and effective management of the information gathered from the field is carried out through the user friendly interfaces also providing monitoring and recording capabilities for simulation based training activities.
To support the decision making process; Aselsan Coastal / Border Security System has the capability to operate various sensors such as;
• Fully solid state designs of Serdar - Coastal Surveillance Radar and Acar - Land Surveillance Radar which act as the long range detection sensors in the System for the surveillance of the Coastal and Border areas. Both radars have automatic detection and target tracking capabilities. Upon target detection, coordinate information of the target is directly transmitted to the Command Center,
• Different Thermal Imagers such as FALCONEYE Electro-Optical Sensor System and EYE Thermal Imaging Camera designed and produced by Aselsan are used to identify the type of threat,
• The system provides the capability of video/data transfer and remote control of the sensors on the field which is essential for the mobility. Considering the need for high data transfer rates and security of communications Aselsan provides different solutions such as WI-MAX, Radiolinks, Fiber-Optics etc. according to the operational scenarios and the requirements of the end-user. Latest ECCM features are provided to enhance secure communications.
To ensure the effective usage of existing inventory and prevent extra costs, Aselsan also offers to integrate other sensors and existing assets to the system creating a cost effective approach for the end-user.
System has the capability to operate autonomous unmanned systems both land and airborne applications to perform reconnaissance and surveillance applications if required. Appropriate response units can be immediately directed to the target area providing a noticeable decrease in time of intervention.
A full demonstration of Aselsan Border Security Systems have been realized in Qatar proving product endurance in tough environmental conditions of the country with successful target detection, identification and tracking results, in June 2012.
Both Land and Coastal Surveillance capabilities have been tested in scope of the demonstration, during which detection & tracking capabilities of Aselsan Land Surveillance Radar and Electro-optics were fully demonstrated. Aselsan Radiolinks were used to transmit data/video between the Surveillance Post and the Command Post also featuring the remote control capabilities of the sensors from the Command Post.
Aselsan is looking forward to be a trusted supplier for the Qatar Armed Forces and other state agencies for reconnaissance and surveillance systems.
