The defense industry is undergoing a substantial change with the developing technology. Today, not only battery technologies but also portable and wearable energy sources are needed in the defense industry.
ASPILSAN Energy, which contributes to the domestic and national production move of our country and the defense industry with its various products to meet energy needs, has speeded up its efforts in the wearable military battery and charging systems.
Ferhat ÖZSOY, General Manager of ASPILSAN Energy, gave information about ASPILSAN Energy's efforts to enhance the design and production capabilities for our country's battery needs in recent years and said, “Battery technologies have become an integral part of our lives today. ASPILSAN Energy, one of the companies of the Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, is the only company performing activities in this field in our country.
The battery industry covers a wide range from mobile phones to robotic systems and electric vehicles. The solution to achieve sustainability in directing energy generation to renewable sources in order to reduce carbon emissions is to store energy. Considering that we generate electrochemical storage with batteries, the significance of batteries in this framework increases even more.
When considering battery technologies in terms of the defense industry, important activities are being conducted to electrify all systems. We observe that batteries are used in a wide range from tanks, APCs to robotic dogs. The majority of UAVs, Tactical UAVs in particular, are powered by batteries, and the batteries determine the most critical elements of these systems. In this regard, batteries are also of great significance for the defense industry.
As ASPILSAN Energy, we carry out quite important activities with our Turkish engineers and with domestic and national resources at our four R&D centers located in Kayseri, Ankara, Istanbul and Edirne in order to develop our defense industry and minimize foreign dependency.
The most critical aspect that differentiates ASPILSAN Energy is that we design special batteries for platform manufacturers as per their requirements. As ASPILSAN Energy, we have focused our efforts on the wearable military battery, which has become an essential need.

Giving information about the wearable military battery and charging system technologies that ASPILSAN Energy has started to produce, ASPILSAN Energy R&D Engineer Yasin KOCAOĞLU said, “In order to lead the way in the technology of future, we have developed a product portfolio in the field of wearable military batteries and charging systems. There are pocket charging modules and a rechargeable semi-flexible lithium-ion battery pack in the special military vest we designed for our army to provide high comfort. Our quick-release military vest has been produced with a flame retardant fabric with high tensile and tear strength, and by taking into consideration possible ballistic armor integration. There are pockets/parts for the wireless battery charging module, mini thermal handheld binocular battery charging module, mobile phone charging module, battery charging module on the military vest, which started to be produced by ASPILSAN Energy with R&D studies. ASPILSAN Energy Wearable Military Battery provides energy to devices such as radio, tactical computer, and night vision goggles carried by our soldiers in areas where flexibility and mobility are critical. Our wearable military vest, pocket charging modules, charge status indicator, detachable pocket charging modules, and different battery charging modules that can be designed and integrated according to requirements have been made available to our military.”
