The scope of the DAKA project consisted of developing state of the art countermeasure jammers and decoys for modern torpedo attacks.

Bilkent University Acoustics and Underwater Technology Research Center (BASTA) had the work packages which included the design and development of field prototypes of the wet-end units and the associated electronics. All packages are successfully completed and delivered to the project main contractor, ASELSAN.

DAKA Acoustic Torpedo Countermeasure decoys creates deception and confusion on torpedoes and the jammers produce a noise barrier, both to provide the critical time for defender to perform tactical evasive maneuvering.

This project had been a very good example of university-industry cooperation. A product which is superior to competing products in many aspects emerged from this project. Any transfer of technology from foreign sources is deemed unnecessary in this project and the entire technology is produced nationally.

BASTA celebrated the completion of Daka Project by a cocktail reception on June 25.

Ministry of Defense R&D and Technology Department officials and project managers, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University administrators and faculty members, ASELSAN managers and project staff, BASTA team, the sub-contractors and suppliers involved in the project participated in the event.

Host of the event, BASTA President Prof. Dr. Hayrettin KÖYMEN guided the guests to a tour of BASTA and described the Center’s expertize and its infrastructure, and discussed the recent developments in underwater acoustic technologies, at large.

Ministry of Defense official spointed out the importance of BASTA as an engineering research center, which employed sub-contractors and SME’s in the prototype development phase and and trained them in this novel technology. Their competence were made fit and ready for the production phase.

ASELSAN’s Executive Vice President and Head of Defense Systems Technologies Division Mr. Fuat AKÇAYÖZ made everybody recall the initial phases of the project in his talk. He said that they had all the confidence in BASTA in this project, which paved the way to this successful cooperation.
