“Development of the Göktürk-3 SAR Satellite System’s Preliminary Design” Agreement Signed Between SSM and TAI

In Defence Industry Executive Committee’s meeting on January 3, 2013; talks for an agreement with TAI on the national development of the Göktürk-3 Satellite Project featuring Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)  image reception with support from TÜBİTAK Space and Aselsan was agreed upon. Intensive studies in this respect were accomplished and Göktürk-3 SAR Satellite System’s Preliminary Design Agreement was signed between SSM and TAI at a ceremony held at IDEF-2013. 
Borders will be protected with SAR satellite
Göktürk-3 SAR Satellite shall be able to receive images under all weather conditions, night and day without any limitations stemming from the land, sea and air fields and shall be installed into the Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Gaining capacities such as forming land elevation models with high resolution and preparing topography maps with the Göktürk-3 SAR satellite is aimed.
Göktürk-3 SAR Satellite System shall enable information support to relevant units of crisis management and damage assessment procedures and provide data for observation of incidents at the borders and regions of crises as well as support in military reviews, monitoring and exercises.  Composed of a SAR satellite and a fixed earth station, Göktürk Satellite System shall serve in various civil applications as well as meeting the demand of Turkish Armed Forces’ of SAR satellite images.
