Esen System Pull off “Innovation and Creativity” Award thanks to “Wide Area Airborne Surveillance System”
The system indigenously developed by Esen System Integration located at the technoparks at METU and Bilkent Universities was deemed worthy of the “Innovation and Creativity” award by the Turkish Electronic Industrialists Foundation. The system produced indigenously will contribute to the disaster recovery, urban planning and security areas in Turkey and also provide precious intelligence to law-enforcement officers and armed forces at theatres. By producing the system used and manufactured mostly by the USA, the company achieved a significant success. Wide Area Surveillance System enables real-time situational awareness of all the motions in the area through airborne surveillance at a medium scaled city (20 square kilometer). Very valuable data could be gathered from wide areas through the system which could be installed on manned and unmanned air vehicles.
More Competitive, More Effective
The system is composed of airborne imaging, airborne data processing system, and data-link and ground station components. The images captured by the imaging system are initially processed by the airborne data processing system and then transmitted to the ground system. The data obtained through the software and hardware at the ground station are primarily recorded and polled. Relational database and geographic information system analyses are conducted simultaneously, the obtained data are presented to the end user in various forms. The system also helps detecting the departure point of the tracked vehicle and provides data regarding the vehicles it meets. Thus, the system provides great advantages during riots, demonstrations and protests, convoy protection, border monitoring, search and rescue, traffic regulation and disaster cases for enabling the coordination.
Homeland Security to Reinforce with Outstanding Technology
ESEN System Integration General Manager Mr. Cem Uğur mentioned that their company with offices at ODTU Teknokent and Bilkent Cyberpak has been conducting important studies in defense and aerospace areas. Uğur noted that the “Wide Area Surveillance” concept was a new concept and while providing situational awareness and that it generated data in a scale which could not even be dreamt of and said, “You can consider this system like monitoring from a satellite which never departs a small residential area. The satellites are capable of monitoring a certain area at certain time intervals. On the other hand, our system offers a greater advantage by monitoring the area uninterruptedly. For instance, during disaster recovery, in the search and rescue operations conducted at the damaged district a great coordination support can be provided through this system”.
