First Order for Otokar’s ARMA Comes from Overseas
As the leader in the design and manufacture of land vehicles in the Turkish defence industry, Otokar completes its family of tactical wheeled armored vehicles with ARMA. The first order for the new 6x6 armored combat vehicle ARMA comes from overseas.
An affiliate company of the Koç Group, Otokar’s armored combat vehicles that are in the service of armies in nearly 20 nations worldwide has become a reference point to the new vehicle ARMA. The ARMA armored combat vehicle received an overseas order without even entering the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces! Having become a trademark in tactical armored vehicles around the globe, Otokar will deliver the 6x6 armored combat vehicles in parties within a period of 15 months according to the contract. The total value of the order including spare parts, training and special equipment is approximately 10.6 million USD.
In a statement issued relating to the order, Otokar General Manager Mr. Serdar Görgüç said that they felt proud to be in the position of leadership in the Turkish defence industry in representing and in providing its strength within the world and added: “Our vehicles which are completely designed and manufactured by Otokar has given us pride in the success achieved in international markets in terms of demonstrating the design and manufacturing strength of our country to the world.”
Stating that they had expanded their product range with Otokar’s ARMA family Mr. Gürgüç said the following: “Up to now, we were providing a service to different geographical regions in many countries around the world with our 4x4 Cobra and ZPT tactical armored vehicles, including the Turkish Armed Forces. Through our accumulation of knowledge and experience, with the newly designed ARMA series we have taken a step in the area of multi wheeled armored vehicles and have completed our range of products in armored tactical wheeled vehicles. We first introduced the 6x6 ARMA at the Paris Eurosatory Fair in June 2010 and drew a great interest from many foreign armed forces. Our first order also came from overseas. Receiving our first order from abroad for this type of product that has been newly put into operation is an indication that Otokar has become a trademark in the world and in the trust and performance of Otokar’s armored vehicles by its users. Our aim is to represent Turkish design and engineering throughout the world.” In line with daily requirements and global developments, the ARMA has been designed and developed with the most modern technology said Mr. Görgüç. “At present modern armies are in search of mobility, modularity and a high degree of protection. With ARMA we are presenting our superior R&D capability and our engineering experience and are combining these three components in an ideal manner. ARMA is a member of the modular built tactical wheeled armored vehicle family that has outstanding tactical features, which can provide a high level of protection at the desired level and that can answer varies types of different requirements. In the period ahead, we expect many other international successes for our ARMA vehicle…,” said Görgüç.
The 6x6 ARMA has amphibious features
With the existing design and engineering infrastructure that Otokar possesses, all intellectual and industrial property rights for ARMA were developed by Otokar’s own resources.
The first 6x6 ARMA family of tactical armored vehicle has a modular platform feature. Developed for various uses, the vehicle in terms of requirements can be equipped with different weapon and turret mounting systems.
The 6x6 ARMA armored combat vehicle has a total of ten personnel capacity including driver and commander and has a 19 ton combat weight. With the engine located at the front right of the vehicle, the armored vehicle has a large area of inner volume and provides an ergonomic working environment within the vehicle.
With its independent hydropneumatic suspension and locked transfer box features, the ARMA is ready for all types of terrain and also possesses an amphibious operation capability. The low turning radius, tire run flat capability, economic fuel consumption and low operational expenses draws attention among similar vehicles in the world. Ballistic and anti-mine protection is provided through an effective monocoque steel hull with an anti-mine and explosives protected seating system. In addition, with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear protection it also provides security for its personnel.
