Harris Corporation Awarded Electronic Warfare Contract to Support Turkish Air Force
Supplying advanced integrated electronic warfare pods
Systems shield F-16s from sophisticated radio frequency threats
Takes electronic protection to new levels of performance and flexibility
Harris Corporation has received a contract to provide electronic warfare (EW) equipment, spares and support services to the Turkish Air Force. The contract was issued by the U.S. Air Force Warner Robins Air Logistics Centre at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.
Harris will supply 21 of its AN/ALQ-211 Advanced Integrated Defensive Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS) pod systems to protect the Turkish Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets from evolving electronic threats. The agreement also includes maintenance support equipment, spares, and engineering support.
“The Harris AIDEWS pod takes sophisticated electronic protection for agile platforms like the F-16 to new levels of performance and flexibility,” said Rich Sorelle, President, Harris Electronic Warfare Systems business unit. “The pod’s design allows F-16 users to move EW capabilities among their fleets to increase overall aircraft availability.
The Turkish Air Force’s F-16 fighter jets will add the Harris Advanced Integrated Defense Electronic Warfare Suite (AIDEWS) pod systems to their fighter’s existing capabilities. This advancement will allow the Turkish Air Force to ultimately strengthen their protection from evolving EW threats, providing war fighter the ability to accomplish their missions’ abroad and return home safely.
The total package will include 21 systems and all deliveries are expected to be completed by July 2017. The advantage of the Harris system is that AIDEWS is the only EW pod in production today, that is that is Seek Eagle certified for unrestricted flight on F-16. The pods can be mounted and dismounted quickly for maximum fleet availability. The system also has interchangeable Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) with the internally installed AIDEWS system.
