HAVELSAN Ehsim Offers Electronic Warfare and Tactical Command & Control Systems
HAVELSAN-EHSiM A.Ş. was established with the initiatives of four Middle East Technical University Electrical and Electronic Engineering Faculty graduates, who were specialized in Electronic Warfare (EW) in 1998. As a result of stable and healthy growth, the number of employees increased from 4 to 45 today. Company shareholders are HAVELSAN A.Ş (51%) and private investors (49%) and the main are interest is on Electronic Warfare and Tactical Command & Control Systems. The company is located at ODTÜ Teknokent since 2003.
HAVELSAN-EHSiM’s mission statement is "to provide its customers with innovative, high integrity and independent solutions for Electronic Attack, Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) Systems, Countermeaure Dispense Systems, Missile Warning, Signal Analysis, Threat Analysis and Evaluation, Countermeasures Technique Development and Tactical Command and Control Systems". This misson is being accomplished through the products developed and projects participated in or undertaken.
Among various products of the company, three are particularly worth to mention in details: EWSS (Electronic Warfare Simulation Software), EHSiM CMDS (EHSiM Countermeasures Dispensing System) and EWAS (Electronic Warfare Analysis Software).
EWSS was developed in an R&D project supported by TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey). EWSS simulates one-on-one engagement between an aircraft and a RF-guided missile defense system, for evaluating the effectivenesses of Aircraft Maneuvers, ECM techniques, Chaff Dispense Techniques, Off-board ECM Techniques or any combination of these on various target tracking radar types. Engament results are given in terms of miss distance and Azimuth, Elevation and Range errors imposed on victim radar.
The EHSiM Countermeasures Dispensing System (CMDS), which flies on Turkish Air Force F-4E/2020 and F-16 fleet, was initially developed to meet Turkish Air Force’s countermeasure dispense system requirements on F-16 Block 30 C/D, F-16 Block 40 C/D, F-16 Block 50 C/D and F-4E/2020 aircraft.
The greatest challenge in this project was to replace the existing AN/ALE-40 system on F-16s without requiring any Group-A modification on the aircraft, yet meeting the performance requirements of a modern dispensing system.
Subsequent to successful completion of the development, integration and operational flight test, application of EHSiM CMDS has been expanded to F-16 aircraft modernized by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Corporation. 300 EHSiM CMDS’s were delivered to Turkish Air Force and EHSiM CMDS has been flying since 2008. Within F-16 modernization program, Peace Onyx-III, Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company, manufacturer of F-16 Aircraft, carried out the aircraft integration and certified EHSiM CMDS for safety of flight. In this sense, EHSiM CMDS is the only system designed, developed and produced in Turkey and certified for F-16 Aircraft by the aircraft manufacturer.
EHSiM CMDS is an expendable countermeasure dispensing system designed to protect the host aircraft in a multi-threat environment. It provides an integrated, threat adaptive, re-programmable, computer controlled capability for dispensing chaff, flares, and other payloads to enhance aircraft survivability in sophisticated threat environments.
The threat environment includes Radio Frequency (RF), Infrared (IR) threat from the different threat platforms. The threat-adaptive features of EHSiM CMDS are provided by the user defined Mission Data Files (MDF). EHSiM CMDS is capable of full integration with the defensive avionics suite of the host aircraft for threat adaptive dispensing of expendables countermeasures. It is also capable of operating, independent of any other avionics system, under direct pilot control in the event of interfacing equipment failure, non-availability of RWR and/or MWS, or per mission requirements.
EHSiM CMDS can be used for a-) a real mission, b-) a training mission, c-) ground testing. It has 4 modes of operation selectable by the user: Off, Standby, Arm and Bypass. System features include very short dispense intervals, Dual-Squib Payload Dispensing and Polling Capability, Misfire Detection and Correction, Inventory Determination, Payload Substitution, Mixed Magazine Loadouts, Payload Inhibit Capability, Separate Dispense Modes for RWR and MWS, Coordinated Dispensing for RF Jammer, Payload Merging, Bypass and Ultra Bypass Operations, Sector Based Dispensing, Training Mode, NVIS Compatibility, Temporary Program Generation and Recording.
EHSiM CMDS was qualified according to MIL-STD-810F, MIL-STD-704A and MIL-STD-461E.
EWAS was developed for Republic of Korea Air Force. It provides post mission data analysis capability for EW Test Range trials. Data collected at EW Test Range can be analyzed (Chaff Dispense Intervals Analysis, Engagement Zone Analysis, Tracking Capability And Deviation Analysis, Maximum Launch Capability Analysis and Effectiveness Analysis), replayed and reviewed for the evaluation of effectiveness of maneuvers, ECM techniques and Chaff techniques.
The Effectiveness Analysis calculates pass, shot, hit and mean values of target range; Results of RIL (Reduction In Lethality), IIS (Increase In Survivability), RIH (Reduction In Hit),and DED (Degradation in Engagement Distance); Lower and upper limits of RIL, IIS and RIH for the selected confidence level; Predicted number of additional passes for a reliable analysis; Probability and cumulative distribution curves of hit/miss data. Analysis results are presented according to any combination of the following criteria: Range, Speed Level, Altitude Level, Weapon type (missile or burst) and Confidence Level.
Recently HAVELSAN-EHSiM A.Ş. is involved in SSM project together with two other Teknokent companies. Here HAVELSAN_EHSiM develops a signal analysis software which finds ECM signals in a multisignal environment in air and determines the parameters of ECM techniques and the performance of the ECM system.
