IDEX 2007 INTERNATIONAL DEFENCE INDUSTRY EXHIBITION ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

In order to ensure that Turkish defence industry products, which are compatible with NATO standards and eligible to meet the requirements of Middle Eastern/Gulf countries, are promoted and marketed in the region, participation in IDEX 2007 Exhibition is assessed as crucial for the export of Turkish defence industry products and bilateral defence industry relations in the region.

Within this context, 42 companies which are led by Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) took part in IDEX 2007, the 8th International Defence Industry Exhibition conducted in Abu Dhabi-United Arab Emirates during 18-22 February 2007, on an area of 3000 m2 as the “Turkish Pavillion”.

In recent years, 22 companies had participated in IDEX 2005 Exhibition on an area of 1500 m2 and 15 companies had taken part in IDEX 2001 with 650 m2in “Turkish Pavillion” under SSM’s auspieces.

Aselsan, Aydın Yazılım, Alp Havacılık, Bilgi Gis, BMC, Eta-Target, Etc-Is, FNSS, Gate, Global, Girsan, Havelsan, Kaletron, Kalekalıp, Koç Sistem, MKEK, Milsoft, Meteksan, Mikes, Makina Imalatçıları , Otokar, Roketsan, STM, Sarsılmaz , Stampa Öztek, Selex, Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, Teknopark, Tübitak- Uekae, Tübitak-Sage, Tibet Makina, THY, TAI, TEI, Trabzon Silah Sanayii, Türk Marin, Unifo, Uygur, Vestel, Yakupoglu, Yüksek Teknoloji, Yonca Onuk have participated to IDEX 2007 under SSM’s leadership.

Minister of National Defence H.E. M.Vecdi GÖNÜL and Undersecretary for Defence Industries Murad BAYAR have been officially invited to the exhibition by BAE. The Turkish delegation headed by Minister H.E. M. Vecdi GÖNÜL conducted intense bilateral negotiations with more than 20 official delegations (comprised of high level officials as Defence Minister, Chief of General Staff, Undersecretary) from 17 participating countries (Pakistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Umman, Malaysia, Republic of South Korea, South Africa, Egypt, Finland, Norway, Ukraine, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, Bulgaria) during the exhibition. The Turkish delegation had official talks with General Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al NAHYAN (Abu Dhabi Crown Prince) and other high level officials.

The negotiations mainly focused on the bilateral defence industry cooperation and the parties agreed on to take further steps regarding cooperation.
