MECHANICAL AND CHEMICAL INDUSTRY CORPORATION under various titles and statues has a history that dates back to the 15th century Ottoman empire era. The establishment of canon cast facilities by Fatih Sultan Mehmet initialized the foundation of the institute. During the Ottoman Empire era a Marshal under the title of Tophane-I Amire had directed the institute.

After the collapse of the empire, the institute with some of its benches, equipment, material and masters, continued to execute its activities with the directive of ATATÜRK in year 1921in ANKARA under the title of IMALAT-I HARBIYE,and afterwards under the title of military factories general directorate. Until 1950 the general manager holding brigadier rank directed the institute. Appointed by the ministry of defense; and after1950 It had the title of mechanical and chemical industry corporation, under which the institute still executes its activities.

Our institute has assigned the task of covering all sort of weapon-rocket-war equipment and necessity of the Turkish Armed Forces. The institute, besides this task determined under the main statue, was also assigned to increase the contribution to national defense industry and to produce new products revolted to cover the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces. These tasks are executed in ANKARA, KIRIKKALE and CANKIRI provinces through 10 factories and 2 operational management in which 3763 workers and total 6228 personnel are employed.

REORGANIZATION ACTIVITIES: While the institute was functioning until 01 APRIL 2003 as incorporation with its 12 partnerships after this date it left the joint structure and was converted into factory model.

After the reorganization, process related to the status modification in the coordination of the concerned ministry of defense; our reorganization efforts to cover the needs of the Turkish Armed Forces more efficient, productive and contemporaneous way and with the scope of putting up with the competition in the international market, is still carried out.

Our studies with the objective of sustainable development and modification are implemented within the frame of total quality management approach. As a result of our studies at the crossroads to convey MKE(Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation) to the 21th century the following are considered in the road map through the new vision of the institute;

*Facilities and lines with military and strategic importance will be modernized and kept.

*In the lines to be modernized where production with military grounds take place, within the limits of the possibilities and abilities and in the case free labor and capacity is formed, with the scope of providing maximum contribution to the national economy also civil products will be produced.

*No investments will be done to the fields where the products can be produced by the private sector, and the products for which no competition is available will be definitely left.

*With the reorganization of the research-development and production- development activities, their efficiency and productivity will be increased; and in this way the product variety will be enlarged.

*Intense labor will be left and instead intense technological working conditions will be established.

*The inter-institutional integration in the products will be left as much as possible, and instead of’’PRODUCE EVERYTHINK YOURSELF’’ the idea of’’ UTILIZAATION OF INDUSTRIAL POSSIBILITIES AND AVAILABILITY’’ will be implied. In this way while the employment in the national industry is increasing also the private sector to make investments in this field will be promoted. Within this purpose related to the production sub-contractor utilization at rate of 85% will be aimed.

*In order to plan and control all these activities and to support these activities with data processing; with the new law to be emanated by the state, under the supervision and control of state, in the dynamics and flexibility of the private sector, working conditions with a contemporary model suitable for the market economy will be provided.
