Onur Engineering Into Simulation Business
ONUR Engineering Inc. (ONUR) has been carrying out an internally funded R&D project to fulfill the requirements of Turkish Simulation Industry for an indigenous Aural Cue/Audio and Communication Simulation System and the first outcome of this project will be demonstrated in IDEF 2013 in İstanbul.
The project has been named as GÖKSESİM, the abbreviation of “Embedded Audio and Communication Simulation System” in Turkish, emphasizing the utilization of embedded hardware and software.
All design, development, integration and test efforts have been realized in-house by a team consisting of well experienced engineers with appropriate background knowledge in simulation and sound engineering.
Absence of a national product in audio and communication simulation area drove ONUR to take initiative to develop a suitable solution and ONUR’s custom designed embedded sound platform (RIG-200 Radio Gateway Equipment) has been selected as audio node and all the application software has been developed internally by ONUR.
The main features of ONUR Aural Cue/Audio and Communication Simulation System, GÖKSESİM, are as follows:
Modular and scalable, distributed architecture,
Universal, all-purpose functionality
API to ease user software development for different simulators
Joint training with external simulators by the use of industry standard protocols and interoperability library
Web based editor
ONUR’s solution is comprised of the following elements:
Audio and Communication Modeling Server
Audio and Communication Modeling HMI
Audio Nodes (DSP Based)
External System Gateways (DIS, HLA, etc)
The system may be utilized for aural cue and sound simulation for all kinds of training and simulation systems, navigational aids simulation and communication systems simulation (radio systems, intercom and telephony devices, link systems, etc).
This development project was fully funded by ONUR and the first delivery of a fully functional solution will be through HAVELSAN’s Submarine Dive Simulator (DEDAS), under a subcontract, which was signed between HAVELSAN and ONUR in December, 2012. Negotiations are also being carried out to deploy the product in future platform simulators.
Deputy General Manager, in charge of Technical Matters, Mr. Noyan DEDE, explains the origin of ONUR’s interest in simulation, “We have been involved in projects where we installed and/or integrated Communication, Navigation and Voice Communication Systems (VCCS) for over 30 years. By combining the previously accumulated know-how with our ongoing development efforts within the context of the Radio Network Project, we decided to take the initiative to develop indigenous solutions for Turkish Armed Forces. We are very proud of the current status of this project and I am confident that ONUR’s solution will play a key role in upcoming training and simulation projects in the near future.”
ONUR aims to be a reliable partner for the big players of international simulation market, while participating in the national simulator programs. Within this context ONUR will also exhibit its Aural Cue/Audio and Communication Simulation System in ITEC 2013 Defence Training Simulation and Education exhibition in Rome.
