The defence and aerospace industry contains both military and civil components within its structure. Although it seems to appear as an intergovernmental sector, civil companies are amongst its customers as well. Participation from all segments of the sector in an area having such dynamics is of vital importance for us. We, as Defence and Aerospace Industry Exporters’ Association (SSI), are increasing our sectoral efficiency day by day. In this sense, the participation of companies operating in civil aviation, security and maintenance and repair, within our association, will surely strengthen our existence.
The defence industry has an integrated structure. A single product is produced through a supply chain composed of many companies and thousands of sub-products. At the same time, the defence industry is also a wide logistical network that covers the stages from design to production, from SMEs to lobbies. And presently, this network covers the whole world. Within this context, international cooperation is crucial for our defence sector. Moreover, it is indispensable for the defence sector.
It is not easy to survive in an environment with such tough competition and exist in the vendor/supplier list. At this point, international relations and promotion are as important as production.  As SSI, we are conducting efficient activities for the promotion of the sector, and we will continue to do so. Being aware of the fact that the term “export” lies beneath the sustainability and strengthening of the sector, we are exerting efforts in all available environments for increasing recognition and awareness.
In cooperation with Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM), we are organizing national participations in international defence industry exhibitions. In those events gathering the whole sector, bilateral negotiations between delegations are being conducted by governmental officials and military representatives. The exhibitor companies are quite sensitive about these negotiations as the strategic partnerships and cooperation amongst countries play a significant role in the procurements made in the defence industry.  Thus, the number of our participant companies and therefore  the Turkish defence and aerospace industry’s efficiency increases more and more. For that reason, we are continuing to participate to the international, prestigious events organized towards target markets.
By nationally participating in the LAAD 2015 International Defence and Security Exhibition that took place in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil on 14-17 April, which is considered amongst the most important events in South America, we had the chance to introduce our new products to the customers located in this region.
Another event that we nationally participated in was the MSPO 2015 International Defence Industry Exhibition held in Kielce/Poland on 1-4 September. Companies attending the exhibition through our organization attracted visitors via their products.
DSEI 2015 Defence Systems and Equipment International Exhibition and Conference was another event that took place in London/England on 15-18 September as well and we realized national participation in this important event too. We participated in this fair with the International Partner status.
By attending the AUSA 2015 Annual Meeting and Exposition that took place in the Washington/USA on 12-14 October, we continued to display to the world the scale of products by our companies, in all available platforms.
Last but not least, we organized our recent national participation in the Thailand Defence and Security Exhibition that took place in Bangkok/Thailand on 2-5 November.
