Seismic Research Vessel Contract was Signed
The contract for the procurement of the Seismic Research Vessel to make seismic researches required for offshore petroleum and natural gas explorations was signed between the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA), Undersecretariat for Defense Industries and İSTANBUL SHIPYARD.
In his speech delivered in the signature ceremony held 2012 at the premises of the Undersecretaritat for Defense Industries, Taner YILDIZ, the Minister of Energy and National Resources, stated that a seismic research vessel equipped with the latest technology is to be procured for the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration to perform offshore petroleum and natural gas explorations and that the vessel to be constructed in Tuzla Shipyard will have 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional seismic research capacities and be capable of performing researches as well as the seismic surveys. "The energy sector is also growing in line with the growth and development of Turkey. Turkey is growing in all aspects, thus we will be continuing our exploration activities with the state-of-the-art technology" said YILDIZ.
YILDIZ stated that the vessel will cost nearly 100 million euros and be financed by the Ministry of Energy and National Resources. "It is planned to be delivered to MTA in 2014 and as a specialized institution, the Undersecretaritat for Defense Industries will act as an intermediate institution" added YILDIZ.
Murad BAYAR,the Undersecretary for Defence Industries, emphasized that the contributions of all institutions that are eligible in the Turkish industry are aimed to be obtained for the construction of the vessel and said: "The vessel is to be constructed at one of our shipyards located at Tuzla. The same shipyard is also conducting two projects for our Naval Forces".
The CEO of Istanbul Shipyard (SNR Holding) Mr. Atilla ÇİFTÇİ GÜZELİ stated that Turkey will have strategic advantage in its region within the superior research capabilities of the Seismic Vessel. The design, construction, outfitting and integration of the Seismic Research Vessel will be performed by İstanbul Shipyard. "The vessel is to be delivered at the end of 30 months. It will be equipped with the state-of-the-art technology and the data can be monitored and tracked in real time" said ÇİFTÇİ GÜZELİ.
The Vessel to start operations in 2014
The vessel will be designed having an overall length of 86 meters and a width of 22 meters and have the capacity of performing three dimensional seismic researches even at oceans. With its two and three dimensional seismic research capacities, it will perform research projects in earth sciences and other related sciences by making geophysical, geological, geotechnical, bathymetric, hydrographic, oceanographic and hydro acoustic researches. It will also give support to the determination of petroleum, mine, natural gas and geothermal resources.Weighing 4500 tones, the vessel will accommodate 70 crews. It is stated that the new vessel, to be constructed at İSTANBUL SHIPYARD, will be equipped with modern propulsion and motion control systemsand have geophysics, geology, sedimentology, wet-and-dry, XRD-XRF, physical, chemical, oceanographic and biological laboratories. It will also have a night and day landing and take-off platform for helicopters appropriate to international standards.
