The “Stars of the Export” award ceremony is being conducted for 12 years in order to promote export that is one of the keystones for economic growth and development and motivates Turkey to reach her 2023 export objectives while supporting the exporting companies. The awards have been delivered to the companies at a ceremony with the participation of Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan, Head of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) Mehmet Büyükekşi, DHL Express Turkey CEO Markus Reckling, Akbank General Manager Hakan Binbaşgil, Vodafone Turkey CEO Gökhan Öğüt and Chief Editor of Dünya Newspaper Hakan Güldağ.
Aselsan has been awarded as the “Best Exporter of 2013” with its contribution to 500 billion US Dollars export target in the Republic’s 100th anniversary.
The door to the export of the state-of-the-art technology products has been opening as Aselsan attaches great importance to R&D. Where product export per capita was at the level of 2 thousand US Dollars in Turkey, this figure has been raised to 50 thousand dollars at Aselsan. Presently, Aselsan accomplishes 5% of Turkey’s high-technology exports.
Aselsan’s approximate sales in 2013 was over a billion US Dollars and the company allocated almost 383 million US Dollars to R&D and increased its R&D share in defence industry to the level of 43%. The monetary amount of the development activities conducted within the scope of contracts and R&D activities realized through equity capital contains 6 % of the sales. When this rate, which is quite high compared to Turkey’s average, is combined with Aselsan’s annual average growth of 15% in the recent years, the R&D expenses have been increased greatly and reached 383 million US Dollars in 2013.
Aselsan’s R&D Investment in 2013 is 383 Million US Dollars
70% of Aselsan’s 2013 investments have been made for acquiring additional technology. In the light of recent data, Aselsan’s R&D expenditure reached 383 Million US Dollars in 2013. This figure was announced as 160 Million US Dollars in 2009. A heavy increase in labor force could be observed in the figures of the last four years as well. According to this, the total number of personnel working at R&D centers was increased to 2.293 from 1.469 in 2009. 2013 has been a year in which Aselsan took firm steps toward its target of taking place in the first 50 defence sector companies of the world. With the addition of two new countries in 2013, the number of countries to which Aselsan makes exports reached to 47. Identifying target regions/countries and conducting heavy marketing activities focusing on these regions/countries bring fruitful results without doubt. Aselsan received 213 Million US Dollars’ worth new contracts and orders in foreign markets in 2013 as a result of such heavy marketing activities.
