Focus Flite Mission Management System
FocusFlite Mission Management System is a support system for pilots in their mission planning, briefing, debriefing and inflight activities. It consists of two subsystems: Mission Planning Ground Station (FocusFlite GS) and Digital Moving Map (FocusFlite AS). FocusFlite  GS is designed to create flight plans for Flight Management System and FocusFlite AS.Mission Planning Ground Station FocusFlite GS also provides various analyses including terrain, threats, meteorology and performance. Digital Moving Map FocusFlite AS is a DO-178B Level C certifiable subsystem which is designed to provide the pilots with significantly enhancing situational awareness during the flight operations.
Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT)
Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT) is a closed loop tunnel, used for paratrooper training in free fall conditions for extended periods of time in a safe environment. The VWT provides free fall training in an economic way, ensuring an average of 95% saving as compared to the cost of lifting a plane for each training. The tunnel provides continuous training under all weather conditions be it rain, snow or storm, by keeping the air temperature constant in the tunnel. All training sessions are recorded, allowing all trainees to see their recent status after trainings.
Power consumption is very efficient and four fully equipped paratroopers can fly at the same time. The speed in the flight area is constant at all points and the levels of noise and vibration due to air circulation are low. The tunnel has a user-friendly automatic control system and it is integrated with a service building, which includes additional space that may be needed for dressing, meeting and briefing rooms as well as amenities such as toilets.
This one of most advanced VWT’s in the world is designed and built indigenously by STM and it is now in use by Turkish Armed Forces.
VWT “Flying without Wings”
STM has delivered the first closed circuit Vertical Wind Tunnel (VWT) - Free Fall Training Simulator to the Turkish Special Forces Command. Designed and delivered by the leading systems and software engineering consultancy company in Turkey, the system was developed for paratrooper training in free fall conditions for extended periods of time in a safe environment. Furthermore, additional benefits of the opportunity to train at any time and substantial reduction in costs have played an important role in the selection of the STM solution.
The design and development activities started in March 2007 and the construction was initiated in October of the same year. The installation of the fans in the summer of ‘08, was followed by the first functional tests that were completed by fall, upon which the system became fully operational. The whole project has been a first for Turkey with one of the most advanced VWT’s in the world.
The design consists of four powerful axial fans with composite blades. Air speed control is realised thru frequency converters which determine the speed of AC motors, a reliable method in any application. The double return closed loop tunnel, has a flight chamber engulfed in a glass-steel structure, providing a feeling of floating in a much larger volume of space. The flight chamber cross sectional area is equal to the area of a circle of 4m diameter, more than enough to train free flyers in a closed environment. The air speed in the chamber can be kept constant up to a height of over 8m. The boundary layer is so thin, that even the most experienced skydivers have difficulty in feeling it. Also the lateral variation in air speed has been kept at a minimum at any height within the flight chamber, made possible by the optimization of the contraction cone, the result of a detailed analysis of computational fluid dynamics.
Power consumption is very efficient for any given air speed and even with up-to-4 fully equipped paratroopers, sufficient reserve power is available for additional participants thanks to high design efficiency.
The tunnel is integrated with a service building, which is another area of innovation. This includes additional space that may be needed for dressing, meeting and briefing rooms as well as amenities such as toilets and showers. As a result of the low level of noise, personnel assigned to the tunnel is able to work without any disturbance, at any location in the building, while the tunnel is in use. The extremely low level of vibration and noise within the flight chamber has been achieved by dampening material. Video recording has been provided in the flight chamber for future reference.
The Vertical Wind Tunnel designed and delivered to the Turkish Special Forces Command is the latest in the world with a very high air speed quality and integrated services building. STM reveals that varying designs can also be possible, tailored to specific customer requirements based on future expectations.
Electronic Flight Bag
Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) is an electronic information management system that helps flight crew perform flight operations more easily and efficiently in a paperless way. It can be integrated with the avionic systems on the aircraft, saves the necessary flight information in an electronic environment and manages the flight related documents during the flight. Nowadays, mobile technologies are used in aviation industry to ease the flight processes of airline companies and to provide the flight operations in an effective and efficient manner. With the Aero Tab solution, STM Corp. leads the usage of mobile technologies in the military and civil aviation industry by generating a national EFB product. As suitable for the paperless cockpit concept, Aero Tab helps the airline companies to reduce the flight costs and pilots to use their valuable time more efficiently, during the flight process.
In January 2013, a cooperation and product usage contract has been signed between Atlas Jet and STM Corp. about the Aero Tab  solution. With this contract, the production and usage of a national EFB solution is intended, by the knowledge and experience of Atlas Jet in the civilian aerospace industry and the product focused approach expertise of STM Corp. in the mobile technology area. By the adoption of Aero Tab solution in the Atlas Jet fleet, a new ground will be broken in the national civilian aerospace industry and Atlas Jet will be the first airline company which began using an EFB solution in their fleet.
